The College of Law Department of St. Mary’s College of Tagum Inc. is delighted to introduce the Master of Legal Studies (MLS)-Juris Doctor (JD) Program. A three-year program aligned with the Legal Education Board (LEB) Memorandum Order No. 29, series of 2023, is designed to provide students with enhanced career opportunities and personal growth before pursuing their JD degree. This program is a significant opportunity for those who may not aspire to become licensed attorneys but have a keen interest in legal studies.

The ladderized MLS-JD program is not just about academics; it's about enriching human potential through legal education. Graduates will have the opportunity to engage in paralegal work, apply legal principles to non-law fields, and even develop skills for self-employment. These skills and values are valuable not only for their professional growth but also for their personal development.

DO YOU WANT TO EARN A MASTER OF LEGAL STUDIES DEGREE? ENROLL NOW!

SMCTI College of Law now offers Master of Legal Studies under the ladderized MLS – JD program. You will earn the MLS degree upon the completion of 50 units of earned academic credits within the Juris Doctor curriculum, provided that you have taken and passed the Mandated Courses and Elective Courses.

Pursuant to the Legal Education Board Memorandum Order No. 29, s-2023, the MLS degree earned shall be treated as a graduate degree equivalent to a Master’s Degree for purposes of reference in qualification frameworks. Since the MLS degree is to be completed under the JD curriculum, you have the advantage and option to further the journey and pursue the JD degree, take the Bar and eventually become an Attorney. Having the chance to secure the MLS-JD dual degree is definitely a wise choice and could lead you to a win-win situation.
