BUNS AND BREWS

BUNS AND BREWS started operating on July 2019, It is a snackhouse that offers burgers, teas, coffees, craft beers, and board games which usually undertaken for enjoyment and sometimes used as an educational tool especially for children. We focused on introducing crafted beers and planning to build a “Home-Brewery” to brew our own beer sooner. As we have noticed that there is “NO” bars, restaurants and resorts in Leyte specifically in Tacloban City were selling hand crafted beers, while we knew that this market was fast growing in Europe, America and mostly in Asia.

“Home-Brewery”, A home-brewery is not a licensed brewery, a home brewer is legally allowed to make up to 200 gallons of beer each year for personal consumption without acquiring state and federal licensing. At roughly 30 gallons to the keg/barrel, the home brewer can only produce 6.6 barrels of beer each year. Most home brewers produces beer in 5 gallon batches also refereed to as a sixth (1/6) barrel. In addition, most home brewers do not run their brewing equipment every day. Instead a home brewer will make a batch at a rate of every other week or less. Unlike major corporations like San Miguel Brewery, the big difference is obviously the amount of beer commercial breweries are capable of producing. A typical home brew is about 5 gallons per batch compared to a commercial brewer that produces around 1000 gallons. The most important reason why craft beer is so much better than mass-produced beer is that craft beer just tastes better. Craft beer is all about flavor. Brewers use special ingredients that are handpicked and perfected over years. Because craft breweries don’t have the advertising power of the big beer companies, one of their most effective forms of advertising is word-of-mouth. What does this mean? That their beer has to taste good, so that people want to share it with their friends. You won’t find any boring watered-down lagers at a craft brewery. You’ll find only the best that the brewery has to offer.

📷There are only four major ingredients of beer: Water, Malted barley, Hops, and Yeast. Most craft beer is brewed using ONLY these four ingredients; however, depending on the type of beer, wheat, rye, coffee, chocolate or fruits may also be used to add flavors.

A craft beer is a beer made in a traditional or non-mechanized way by a small brewery or Microbrewery. The amount of production in craft beers is low compared to commercial beers. Micro-breweries also value quality over the quantity. they focus on the flavor and taste, craft beers provide variety when it comes to the usual choices, especially when they’re made with ingredients you wouldn’t mix with beer making the brew extraordinary. While commercial beers are available in multitudes and in numbers, craft beers certainly give people better assortment and a different standard when it comes to their beer choices. Commercial beers are brewed with adjuncts. Adjuncts are added to something else as a supplementary rather than an essential part like any non-malted grain like rice or corn. It’s also endearing to learn how micro brewers take their craft seriously. They do their job out of passion resulting to a product that is genuinely appreciated and enjoyed by its drinkers.
