Selyo, Philippine history in postage stamps by Reynaldo Gamboa Alejandro, Rosa Menguito Vallejo & Arminda Vallejo Santiago, 2005, 156 pages

(Preloved)

The world of stamp collecting or philately is a very exciting one. Since postage came into existence thousands of years ago, millions of postage stamps have been produced showcasing the history, culture, arts and sciences of many countries. Postage stamps tell a story in images. Stamp collecting since the 1850s has become one of the largest pastimes in the world, and buying and selling of stamps has become a multi billion dollar industry.

A treasury of Philippine Nudes a collection of ageless art vol 1

A known collector of Philippine art, Carlos Chuckie Arellano has devoted a substantial part of his art treasury to a subject of great interest to many - nudes. With around 2000 works collected over the years, Arellano has published a monograph on a good sampling from his collection, representing both the valuable works of masters and contemporary artists alike. Complementing the Arellano collection are vintage pieces from our National Artists generously shared by institutional and individual collectors. Here, in this book, are choice nudes by over 50 Filipino artists, exclusively reproduced, and with accompanying profiles of their creators. The abundance of beauty in these works, and the talent and inspiration that invariably went into each piece, speak volumes about the Filipino artist and his muse. A treasury of Philippine Nudes is a collector's grand item, a veritable keepsake for the ages.

Sangkatauhan, Sangkahayupan: mga kuwento, Alvin B. Yapan, 2016, 217 pages

SELLING PRICE: 800

In our image, America's Empire in the Philippines by Stanley Karnow, 1989, 494 pages

SELLING PRICE: 900 pesos

Excerpt from the Preface

The origins of this book date back thirty years, when as a foreign correspondent I first began to report from Asia. My vast territory included the Philippines, a country that for me differed drastically feom any other in the region - or indeed, from any I had previously covered in Europe, Africa or the middle east. Here I was, in a former US possession, immediately familiar to an American. Most of the people I initially spoke Americanized English, and many had been educated in the United States or in American schools. They knew far more about the United States than I knew about the Philippines, as if they were some kind of lost American tribe that had somehow become detached from the US mainland and floated across the Pacific. But with each successive visit I perceived that their values and traditions, though frequently concealed under an American veneer, were their own - and often antithetical to the American model. My observations eventually led to this book, ehich essentially addresses three questions:

What propelled the Americans into the Philippines?
What did they do there?
And what has been the legacy of their rule?

So this is not a history of the Philippines ss much as it is the story of America's only major colonial experience.

-This book is a unique account of contemporary and past tattooing practices among the Kalinga people in Northern Luzon. Based on long term and in-depth fieldwork, the author documents traditional tattooing practices and designs and explores the origins and meanings of designs. However, this book also takes into account the contemporary relevance of tattooing as an aspect of asserting identity as well as a practice that draws tourists into the region. As such, the author demonstrates comprehensively that the tattooing practices of the Kalinga have both a long history as well as a hopefully vibrant future. -E. Ewart & Marcus Banks.

The Philippine Heritage Homes a guidebook

By Jaime C. Laya, Maria Cristina V. Turalba &Martin I. Tinio Jr.

Selling price: 900 pesos

The lives of ordinary people, whether rich or poor, also become real when one sees the homes where they worked, loved and lives their days; the utilitarian and prized objects they owned. To catch a glimpse of the daily life of our ancestors gives us a better appreciation of who we are and how we came to be so...

Sadly, time and people all too often take old homes for granted...

As the first of several guidebooks, this work covers a sampling of domestic structures readily accessible from Metro Manila.

Ramon Obusan Philippine folkdance and me from the perspective of a Japanese dancer

Selling price:500 pesos

By Kanami Namiki

"The engaging portrait of Obusan that Kanami's research drew is the outcome of a long process of learning the master's language, immersing herself in his world, experiencing the hardship and satisfaction of becoming Filipino enough to be accepted into Obusan's family...

I know of no other work that succeeds beautifully in weaving together a history of the development of Filipino folkdance over the twentieth century an outsider's insider's account of one of the top two folk dance companies in the Philippines and a sensitive wide ranging reflection on how a foreign dancer learns to become Filipino in bodily movement and sensibility.

Once out of the government, Mabini tried to get at least some rest needed by his health, he left Kabanatuan on May 11 for Talavera and then Umigan. From Umigan, he went to Rosales. Upon the suggestion of the municipal head, he left Rosales for Balungaw where he stayed for some time to bathe in its famous hot springs. The rest he was hoping to get was impossible.

Juan Ponce Enrile a memoir

No of pages: 753 pages

Juan Ponce Enrile's career spans six presidencies from Ferdinand Marcos to Benigno S. Aquino III, during which the Philippines metamorphosed from a free- wheeling republic into a brutal dictatorship that eventually gave way to a turbulent return to democratic rule. Sheer longevity, proximity to power and a forceful personality have made Enrile difficult to trivialize, much less ignored. Neither his friends nor his enemies have the power to exaggerate or misrepresent his gifts as well as his faults; they would have to reckon with the man's personal point of view, here most eloquently told from where he stood and contributed his share to the nation's narrative.
