‘MAYROON PALA TALAGANG AGREEMENT’

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. confirmed on Saturday the agreement between China and former president Rodrigo Duterte concerning the Ayungin Shoal as he maintains having no knowledge about it until recently.

“With the confirmation of the Chinese Embassy, we now know that there was a secret agreement,” he said in a press conference.

Marcos also said he prefers to call the “gentleman agreement” a “secret agreement,” saying it was deliberately hidden from the Filipino people.

“Ano ba ang pinangako ng Duterte administration sa China? Dahil hindi pa natin alam eh... ngayon lang tayo nakakatiyak na...mayroon pala talagang agreement.
Tawag nila is gentleman’s agreement, tawag ko diyan, secret agreement,” he added.
The alleged agreement is widely believed to have given China leverage to shift blame onto the Philippines amid escalating tensions in the West Philippine Sea.
