Disappointments from people around us can give us a feeling of inadequacy. We ask ourselves, "Is there anything wrong with me?" "What do I need to do to be accepted?" We look at ourselves in the eyes of people who we think find us weird or not at par with their expectations. However, if we look deeper into such judgments we make on others, this is actually rooted in comparing ourselves with them instead of us being secure in who we are in Christ. In Isaiah 49:14-15, Zion says that God has forsaken and forgotten her, but God answers that He has not. Even if a mother forgets her own child, God will not forget and forsake Zion. And in verse 16 He says that He has inscribed Zion on the palms of His hands. What a great assurance for us today who feel insufficient for others and insecure of our status.

As human beings, we have an innate longing to be loved, cared, and accepted. But since we live in a broken world filled with broken people, we don't always get what we need. That's why it's important that we find security in who we are in God instead of seeking acceptance and approval from people. Our Creator is the only One who can fill the void in our souls. He alone sees the deepest longings of our hearts, our unmet needs, and our unexpressed hurts. We are His masterpiece and He alone can satisfy us. In Christ, we belong to our Heavenly Father. We are not orphans, and in His family, no one is unwanted or unloved.
