The story of the fig tree in Mark 11 is so short that its easy to miss the lesson behind it.

Why did Jesus curse the tree? Afterall, it was not the season for it to bear fruit. Its really not the tree’s fault. Or so I thought.

When we read Scripture it helps to read it under the lense of knowing we have a purposeful God. There’s always a reason behind the things He does.

The fig tree was not cursed because it did not have fruit. It was cursed because it had the “appearance” of many leaves but no fruit. It was masquerading to be something it was not.

I was confronted with this truth years ago when I found myself so focused with work, taking bible school and serving in the church that I thought I was producing lots of fruit. By the mercy of God, He warned me of the temptation towards false pretenses of having fruit.

Anyone can be winning in the workplace, successful in school or serving hard in the church but a closer look will reveal withered roots. Thats why anyone can be infuential but have no true impact.

This thought haunted me after God’s tender rebuke: What will Jesus find in me, just leaves or figs too?

Jesus warns us of His displeasure when we have the appearance of fruit but not the fruit itself. Lets not miss out on holiness trying to be impressive. The goal is not to look Christian but to be Christ-like. Intimacy is still the priority. 💯

An author once asked Kobe Bryant why he keeps doing basic workouts considering he is the best player in the game.

“Why do you think I’m the best?” Bryant continued, “Its cause I dont get bored with the basics.”

Sometimes in the midst of feeling like we have lost passion for God, we look for new ways and new methods only to find ourselves even more frustrated when we dont find Him there.

But dont you think the best way to look for something is to go back to the place where you first found it?

Sometimes, passion is not lost rather it is misplaced. It’s not about new things but about the humility to go back and do the basics.

Such a privilege to share God’s Word with Youth With A Vision Sta. Clara last weekend. 🙌

Tanong ko sa Lord bago magturo, “Will they understand what I’m about to share, Lord? Theyre so young.” The Lord humbled me by saying, “Kailan ba dapat?” 🤯

My challenge to young people and to you today is this: Dare To Be Different 👊

Thank you Ps. ! Always love our brutally honest bts convos 🤣 thanks to the team, lovelove 🔥

Love, the highest commandment yet the hardest one to keep. It’s easy to love God because He’s loving, kind, gentle and everything beautiful but it’s another thing to love your neighbor as not everybody is loving, kind, gentle and certainly not beautiful in lots of ways (as we all are).

One of the main reasons why we don’t love others as easily as we love God is because we fail to realize that every person is an image-bearer of God. Every creation is a reflection of its creator. If we begin to see every friend, co-worker, or even your worst enemy as an expression of God’s nature, then it will be a humbling privilege for us to love them wholeheartedly.

It’s easy to get lost in the system and forget that love has been and will always be the greatest commandment of all. In fact, if you sum up the 10 commandments, the first 4 commands us to love God and the other 6 commands us to love others. Jesus reiterates this in Matthew 22:36-40.

John 13:35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. 💜✨

Dating is hard, but Christian dating is on another level. As a single Christian woman close to her 30s, here are a few reasons why I think dating has become so weird:

We use Christian expressions loosely.
We must seek the Lord, especially in dating. But you don’t have to use God’s Name to ask someone on a simple date, or the opposite—break up with them. Have you heard of, “God told me…”? It may come from a sincere heart but it can cause confusion and come off as spiritual manipulation.

The expectations are too high in Christian dating.
We should date with the intention of marriage. But when you ask someone on a date, it does not automatically mean you have to marry them. Don’t feel bad if the date does not turn out as expected. If the dating period reveals that you’re not on the same path, there is nothing wrong with simply staying friends.

As much as we love our spiritual mentors, their meddling can be a burden too. Proverbs say that there is safety in the multitude of councilors. However, you have to draw a line to make sure you are not compelled to decide based only on their opinions. Wait upon the Lord to speak to you personally.

God does not write the name of your future spouse on the clouds—though He can. I believe God does this to teach single people how to abide in Him and discern His voice. This makes singleness a season of chasing after Jesus. At the right time, He is going to tap you on the shoulder and point you towards that person who is also running as hard as you.

Dating is always awkward at first, Christian or not, but it does not have to be weird.
