Easter Sunday
March 31, 2024
* Procession "Salubong"
* Holy Mass

Easter Sunday is the day Christians celebrate Jesus Christ's resurrection from the dead, which occurred three days after his crucifixion. It's the most significant event in the Christian faith, symbolizing hope, renewal, and the promise of eternal life. It's marked by special church services and traditions like egg hunts, symbolizing new life.

The "salubong" procession during Holy Week is a traditional Filipino Catholic ritual that commemorates the meeting of Jesus Christ and his mother, Mary, after his resurrection. It typically takes place on Easter Sunday morning, before dawn. The significance of the "salubong" lies in its portrayal of the triumph of life over death, symbolizing the resurrection of Jesus and the fulfillment of God's promise of salvation. It is a deeply symbolic and emotional event for Filipino Catholics, serving as a powerful reminder of the hope and joy that Easter brings.

The Holy Mass on Easter Sunday is a central part of the Christian celebration of Easter. It is conducted to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. The Easter Sunday Mass is a joyful and celebratory occasion, as it marks the culmination of the Holy Week events, beginning with Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, his Last Supper with his disciples, his crucifixion, and finally, his resurrection. It is a time for believers to gather together to worship and give thanks for the victory of life over death and the hope of eternal salvation that Jesus' resurrection offers.

Veneration of the cross
Procession

Good friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is considered a somber and solemn day in Christian tradition, often observed with fasting, prayer, and reflection on the crucifixion. The term "black" may symbolize the darkness and sorrow associated with Jesus' death on the cross.

"Siete Palabras" or "Seven Words". It refers to the traditional devotion practiced on Good Friday, the Seven Last Words of Jesus are meditated upon through prayer, reflection, and sometimes sermons. These Seven Last Words are the seven phrases Jesus spoke while he was on the cross, as recorded in the four Gospels of the New Testament. The devotion typically involves attending church services where each of the Seven Last Words is reflected upon and expounded upon by clergy or speakers.

The Veneration of the Cross is a solemn ceremony observed on Good Friday. It symbolizes the recognition of Jesus' sacrifice and the redemption of humanity through his death on the cross.

"Penitensya" is done on Good Friday during Holy Week as a form of repentance and reflection on Jesus Christ's sacrifice and suffering on the cross. It is a way for believers to emulate Christ's humility and sacrifice by performing acts of penance, such as fasting, prayer, and acts of charity, to express remorse for sins and seek spiritual purification.
