It runs in the blood.

A family legacy of boxing is being carried forward by three young brothers who are set to compete in the upcoming Palarong Bicol 2024 boxing competition. Meet the Subion brothers of Palta Small, Virac, three fierce warriors representing the island in the exhilarating sport of boxing, are ready to showcase their prowess and represent our province with pride.

Bishounen, 17; Archie II, 15; and Yurico Cain, 14 have been trained in the art of boxing by their father, Archie Subion, who is a well-known mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter in their community. With a deep understanding of various combat techniques, their father has been instrumental in honing the skills of his sons and instilling in them the values of discipline, hard work, and perseverance.

As they prepare for the Palarong Bicol boxing competition, the Subion brothers have been rigorously training under their coach Nicanor Aliguyon Jr. who promised to bring seven golds for . With the help of their father’s guidance, their training regimen includes a combination of strength and conditioning exercises, technical drills, and sparring sessions to ensure they are well-prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.

For Yurico Cain, a Palarong Pambansa bronze medalist, competing in the Palarong Bicol boxing competition is not just about winning medals or trophies. It is an opportunity to represent their family, their town, and their beloved province of Catanduanes on a larger stage. Their ultimate goal is to make their community proud and inspire other aspiring young boxers to follow in their footsteps.

“Iuuwi ko po ang ginto sa Palarong Pambansa,” he promised.

For him, their exposure to a myriad of boxing competitions played a significant role in his growth as a fighter. From participating in the Universal Reality Combat Champion (URCC) to amateur bouts across the province, region, and even Manila and other cities, these experiences honed his skills and shaped him into the athlete he is today.

Behind their impressive skills lies an unbreakable bond of brotherhood. The Subions have always supported each other, both inside and outside the ring. They have shared countless hours of training, offering words of encouragement and pushing each other to reach new heights.

Beyond the techniques taught by their father, he also imparted valuable life lessons. He instilled in them the importance of humility in every situation and emphasized that the strength and prowess gained from boxing should never be used for violence or malice.

As the Subion brothers step into the boxing ring, they carry with them not only their family's legacy but also the hopes and dreams of their fellow Catandunganons. With their unwavering dedication and determination, there is no doubt that they will make a significant impact in the world of boxing and continue to uphold the rich tradition of their family and province.
