The SOS Children's Movement is a unique system of child care. it was started in Austria by Dr.Hermann Gmeiner, to provide shelter for children who were rendered parent less and home less after Wold War II. This approach to the problem of orphan care has proved so successful that today SOS in the largest organization in the World. Presently there are 1,897 SOS facilities in 133 countries and serving over 25 million children. SOS Children's Village of Pakistan in Lahore affiliated with SOS Kinderdorf International, which is the umbrella organization with its head office in Innsbruck, Austria. Each National SOS Children's Village Association is independent in its own country and comprises of local co-workers to run affairs of the village at Provincial level. Mother: Each child has a caring foster parent. The SOS mother builds a close relationship with every child entrusted to her and provides the security, love and stability that each child needs. Brothers and Sisters: Family ties grow naturally. Girls and boys of different ages live together as brothers and sisters, within the same SOS family. Home: The house is the family's home with its own unique feeling. Under its roof, children enjoy a real sense of security and belonging. Village:SOS Family is a part of the community. SOS families live together, forming a supportive village environment where children enjoy a happy childhood. SOS YOUTHHOME ABBOTTABAD:-Boys and girls who are not biologically related cannot stay together after the age of thirteen. Hence, after the boys’ turns thirteen they are shifted from the village to a Youth Facility. The girls continue to stay in the village. Though SOS Youth Home Abbottabad aim is to support children by giving them a loving home, the final testament of our work would be the way our youth get settled in life. Over the years we have had some inspiring success stories of youth. We constantly aim at working towards the integration of SOS children into the society and make our youth confident and contributing members of the society. Co-workers take care of them and assist them in education, employment and other spheres of life. It is at this stage where aptitude tests are also conducted to ensure that a youngster chooses the right career path. The Youth Home in Abbottabad was established to house adolescence. They receive professional education or technical training, according to their aptitude and leave the organization only when they are capable of earning their own living.
