INTRODUCTION
Madawa welfare society was established on 5th July 2002 in Karachi. This society caters for the needs of mentally and physically handicapped students. Children of 8 year to 40 years are treated here regardless of their ethnic, social, economics, religious and cultural background. They are usually from the slum area of Karachi. The number of children has been increasing ever since this society was established. The society has been facing finical constraint since its establishment. There are fewer pupils in the society who are being taught and looked after to maintain academic standard. The environment is domestic and student-friendly. The prime objective of this society is to provide the handicapped children homely love, care and peace so that the children at the society would be useful and responsible citizens of the future.

SERVICES
Prior to admitting, every child is checked by expert panel of doctors free of cost. After diagnosis, the treatment gets under way.
Group of expert special education teacher | prepares the curriculum.
Physiotherapy and speech therapy are provided absolutely free of cost.
In order for the common people to be aware of [special children, our teams visit homes, offices, factories and banks. This drive enlightens masses about, the right |of special people. Meeting at com-munity level is held too. Parents are taught how to teach their special child.

Health talks are organized to help prevent handicap amongst pregnant women. Pregnant women and parents are given advice on pre-natal and post natal level.

TRAINING OF THE HANDI CAPPED
Physically handicapped and mentally re****ed children are given maximum freedom so that they could take care of them selves as much as possible. They are encouraged to socialize through participating in social programmes, walks, drama and cultural shows to enable them in order to explore their own talents.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMME
The purpose of this program is to familiarize the boys and girls at Madawa with their own purpose of life and self-respect. Every week special entertainment programme is made. Special children are taken to places where normal children also enjoy. Parents accompany the children to support them. This enables parents to take the children to place of their own choice

FAMILY RELATIONS
Family members and relatives of special children are convinced to help their children become effective members of the same society they live in. Social Awareness Programmes are organized for the some purpose bi-monthly.

MONTHLY REPORT
Parents are informed about the progress of their children through monthly reports. Parents and teachers maintain the progress and performance of every child in Daily Diary. Contacts are made with national and international Organizations that run such welfare programmes. Public sector and NGO's both are sources of information to improve the condition of special children.

FUNDING

STAFF
Special children need a lot of care and attention. One teacher can look after only a few children. Male and female staff workers are working enthusiastically at Madawa. They are also given in-service teaching to train the special children. They benefit from training programs at Karachi and other cities regularly.

FUTURE PROGRAMMES
Madawa is planning to establish a hospital in future where the poor and needy will be treated free.
