TCB-1, SSRL Receive Fire and Safety Awards

Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Company (PVT.) Limited and Sino Sindh Resources Private Limited, subsidiaries of Shanghai Electric, have reiterated their commitment towards the environment and safety of their workers.
The two companies, who are jointly working on the 1320MW Thar Block-1 Integrated Energy Project, were once again in the limelight at the 13th Annual Fire and Safety Excellence Awards which took place on the sidelines of the Annual Fire and Safety Convention here at a local hotel. Both TCB-1 and SSRL received awards at the event.
Mr Meng Donghai, Chairman of TCB-1 and SSRL, expressed his pleasure over the fact that the companies were awarded for their commitment towards workers' safety for the third consecutive year.
“Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Company (PVT.) Limited (TCB-1) and Sino Sindh Resources Private Limited (SSRL) have always kept the safety and well-being of our workers as our top priority," Mr Donghai commented. "We will continue with this resolve and will take all out measures to keep our workers safe," he added.

In order to promote traditional Chinese culture and create a warm and festive atmosphere for the "Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese National Day," Thar Block 1 Integrated Energy Project organized a series of celebration activities, including cultural and sports events, the flag-raising ceremony and dinner party.
On the afternoon of September 29, the Project held gomoku, chess, two-person three-legged running, and tug-of-war in the activity center and football court. The gomoku and chess games were held simultaneously, and participants were enthusiastic. Chess players remained calm and focused, strategizing with every move.
Participants in the three-legged running and tug-of-war competitions exhibited high morale and a spirit of unity, emphasizing the value of "friendship first, competition second." They chanted slogans, gave their best efforts, and never gave up until the last moment. The competition site resounded with cheers and shouts, reflecting the dedication and unity of Project members in contributing to the Project's operations, ultimately benefiting thousands of households and supporting Pakistan's efforts to establish a secure energy system.

On the occasion of Pakistan's Independence Day and CPEC 10th Anniversary , Thar Block 1 Integrated Energy Project organized a colorful series of activities to celebrate both important historical moments. On August 13, a friendly football match presented by the Project's team and Pakistani Army's team. Both teams not only showed their excellent skills in the match, but also conveyed a deep friendship through interaction and communication.On August 14, at 9:00 AM sharp, the flag of Pakistan was raised by the national anthem of Pakistan to kick off the Independence Day celebrations.Chinese Consul General Yang Yundong and his team, Brigade Commander of the 441st Brigade, as well as local notables participated in this significant event. The chorus team composed by representatives of Chinese and Pakistani employees from the Project performed the "China Pakistan Lofty Friendship" during the event, which demonstrated the profound friendship formed by the Chinese and Pakistani employees during their work and life on the Belt and Road.

As part of its ongoing CSR activities, Thar Block 1 Integrated Energy Project renovated Marvi Stadium in Thar and inaugurated the same on August 12, 2023.
Thar Block 1 Integrated Energy Project renovated the stadium at a cost of US$200,000 over a period of three months.
The newly-renovated stadium was opened to the public and an exhibition match was played at the venue between cricket teams from Islamkot and Thar Block 1 Integrated Energy Project as part of the Independence Day celebrations. Hundreds of local fans turned up for the cricket match and festivities which was attended by a number of dignitaries. Top government officials, SSRL and TCB-1 management led by Chairman Mr Meng Donghai were present at the inauguration.
"It is a great occasion to be here for this inauguration ceremony and cricket match which is an important part of our ongoing CSR activities," commented Mr. Donghai. "We are aware that cricket is by far the most popular sport in Pakistan and wanted to give youngsters of this area an opportunity to hone their skills in it. We hope that this stadium will enable them to take up and enjoy cricket on a long-term basis," he added.
Mr Kamlesh Kumar, Chairman, Town Committee, Taluka Islamkot, hailed Thar Block 1 Integrated Energy Project for the great service towards the people of the area. "It's a great step. Our stadium can now become the best in the area. It's a great development and a big service towards the people of our area, especially youngsters. I really appreciate Thar Block 1 Integrated Energy Project for renovating our stadium," he said.

Thar Block 1 Integrated Energy Project bagged awards at the 20th Environment Excellence Award 2023 from National Forum of Environment and Health (NFEH) on August 09, 2023.
as the chief guest at the awards ceremony held at a local hotel. The ceremony was held alongside a Conference on “Adapting Urban Transportation to Climate Change.” Mr. Meng Donghai, Chairman of Thar Block 1 Integrated Energy Project, stressed that his company, which is working on a CPEC priority project, will continue playing its role in protecting the environment. “It gives me great pleasure to receive this award. This is the third year in a row that we have received this honour. Our company gives the environment and public health great importance. We have been working on various projects for the greater benefit of the community and will continue to make sure that our company makes lives better for the people of the area," he said.

On August 7, 2023, Shanghai Electric joyfully received the "HONOURING YOUR COMMITMENT TOWARDS SHARED PROSPERITY THROUGH CPEC" award bestowed by the government of Pakistan.This award aims to recognize Chinese enterprises' outstanding contributions during the tenth anniversary of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. Our company was honored with this award for its successful advancement of the Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project.
During the award ceremony, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, personally presented the award, and Pang Chunxue, Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan attended, along with senior officials from Pakistan's Federal Investment and Energy departments. Mr. Meng Donghai, the head of the Thar project, represented our company on stage to accept the award.

The Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project, a key part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is in full swing and local women are playing their role.

The Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project has trained and employed local women to work on the project as part of our initiative aimed at women empowerment in the impoverished region. One such activity is the solar panel cleaning.

A total of 21 women from the surrounding areas of Mithi and Islamkot have been hired for solar panel cleaning. Local females are making their presence felt in this mega CPEC power project in the desert.

On April 22, the first day of the Eid al-Fitr in this year, Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project carried out the "Send Warmth" activity to our Pakistani employees, during which the Project sent about several goats, watermelons, drinks and other 2500 pieces’ groceries. These gifts is for thanking them for their contribution to the Project and sending them festival wishes.

During the activity, Mr. Meng Donghai, the Chairman and General Manager of Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project send gift of company to Pakistani employees. He also had dinner and chatted with them about their working and daily life issues. He also visited the newly arranged basketball court in the Pakistani Activity Center and asked about the basketball and volleyball courts plan.

Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project and members of All-Pakistan Chinese Enterprises Association (APCEA) funded Enterprises "Heart-to-Heart" Charity Material Donation Ceremony at Thalassaemia Center on April 19, 2023.

Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM), a public welfare organization of the Pakistani government, joined forces with Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project and other 12 donating companies in Pakistan in Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9 Park) Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal. This activity contributed 1300 ration bags to for PBM Beneficiaries including orphans, widows & deserving families. The slogan of the activity was, "No empty stomachs, only hearts full of compassion."

Thar Block-1 Integrated Power Project donates food supplies to needy villagers

During the holy month of Ramadan this year, Shanghai Electric’s Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project organized Ramadan donation food supplies to 900 households in nearby villages of Project site.

“We are doing our best to help the community in this time of need,” said Mr Meng Donghai, CEO of Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Company (PVT) Limited. “Our company will continue supporting the local population,” he added.

The food packages provided to the villagers included all basic necessities including rice, floor, cooking oil, sugar, tea, etc. and were handed over to the villagers by senior company officials.

The Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project, one of the mega projects of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has provided more than 18,000 direct employment opportunities for the locals, with a cumulative tax payment of US$120 million and CSR expenditure of over US$1.3 million. The Project is jointly run by Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Company (PVT) Limited (TCB1) and Sino Sindh Resources Private Limited (SSRL).

On March 22nd, 2023, the Inauguration Ceremony of Thar Block-1 Integrated Coal Mine Power Project Commercial Operation Date was held in Thar Block-1.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Pakistan Minister for Foreign Affairs Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Minister for Power Khurram Dastagir Khan, Chief Minister of Sindh Province Syed Murad Ali Shah, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority(NEPRA) Chairman, Private Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) Managing Director, National Transmission & Dispatch Company(NTDC) MD, Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy of China in Pakistan Pang Chunxue, Leng Weiqing, Chairwoman of Shanghai Electric Group, sent a congratulatory video to Inauguration Ceremony, and more than 300 people including government officials, representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises in Pakistan, and media personnel formally presented the Inauguration Ceremony.
