Thank you to the Dubai Autism Center for hosting me today! A big thanks to Asha and Alex for the thorough tour of the facility. It was wonderful to see Dr. Nick again after all these years. I always appreciate the opportunity to learn from you.

Over the weekend, I had the chance to take part in a two-day seminar led by Dr. Gregory Hanley, which focused on the Practical Functional Assessment and Skill-based Treatment (PFA-SBT) methodology. I got to meet my ex colleagues from Carbone clinic which made the training more reinforcing.

Effective utilization of Jigsaw puzzles during speech therapy sessions. Here; the clinician incorporated anticipation by asking the child what comes after. Sequencing of letters and making use of spontaneous utterances; for eg; A for .....; later showing the puzzle for the profession. Moreover; asking WH questions by labeling the professions with correspondence of each letter and what is their respective task or job. Ex: a builder; builds a house, and a firefighter extinguishes fire. Maximal participation was observed from the child; at the same time success in terms of interaction; focused & joint attention; and adequate use of language.

Motor Imitation is one of the aspects our children are observed through, which is just mimicking actions. Imitation is an important skill to develop. Copying someone else's motor movements is one of the primary ways that people learn language, social skills and also play.
This is because by observing others around us, we may learn new things fast and efficiently. The video is one of the activities which took place during our therapy sessions!

09/02/2023

Following the child’s lead and using unstructured activities for therapy is extremely important!
This method is an example of child centred approach where we focus on what the child needs and perform activities during therapy according to that only.

This is essential because not every child is the same!

Rainbow rice encourages the child to manipulate and explore materials.
This builds up their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Here; the child is expected to identify the colored teddy bears placed in the rainbow rice.

Maintaining Eye contact is one of the core tasks during therapy as it helps to communicate in a better way! However, we do not force it.
Instead, we make sure to use such activities which reinforces eye contact.
In this video, with the help of props, we are encouraging eye contact with the child for more understanding & connection.

We really care about your child’s learning and believe that it is very important to provide customized sessions as every kid is different in their own way.

No two kids can be taught in the same way they have very unique cognitive systems!

In this video, you get to see how we have gauged a child’s interest through lego play for a speech therapy session!

27/01/2023

According to common believes, only traditional methods are used for OT at most places.

At Umatter, we put full focus on research & consultation after which we create and conduct unique types of sessions in order to help your child!

19/01/2023

In order to proceed with our therapies, such ABA therapy, we make sure to fully understand your child. Through proper Interaction with them and one on one consultation sessions, we determine the kind of therapy they need.

This also helps us to design how their therapy will take place and which activities to use in order to help them out!

Because at umatter, we care!

Importance of fading your prompts- it is very important for kids to finish their tasks by themselves. You can see how our BCBA is delivering physical prompts and fading it to ensure the child doesn’t become dependent on a particular prompt when learning a new skill. So proud of this kiddo 👏

Categorization is important in language because it gives us a way to group our thoughts, process information, store and retrieve ideas, and describe items!

Categories give a connection between words based upon similarities and differences.

Working on categories is a great way to build and expand vocabulary.

Our champ had a fun session learning the concept of categorization.

Play skills are significant when it comes to a child’s speech and language development.

It also helps in developing higher-level language functions.

In this video, our kiddo is excited to open the new doll house and also making an effort to express her feelings.
Good job 👏👏
