Mental Health, more specifically the mental health of children and young adults.
In recent years there's been such an exponential increase in physiological illnesses, and we unfortunately as a society have failed to recognize that. When we see a healthy child, it's not only their physical health which should be our concern but also their emotional and mental health.
As parents, we need to understand that our children live in a world where they are exposed to far much more than we ever were & their generation has to deal with burdens we couldn't begin to understand. So make sure you check up on them.... and try not to blame everything on their phonesπ
And for the wonderful children out there; don't be afraid to come talk to us adults. We're always here and be a little patient with us, we too are learning how to heal old wounds. If needed, I know some wonderful physiologists and therapists. We're all here π―
Here's a wonderful patient and her dazzling accessories π

βοΈGUIDANCE FOR MILITARY DOCTORSβοΈ
The path for aspiring and serving doctors in uniform is unique and challenging. They are given all facilities alongside opportunities for career growth and progression.
In this field you not only serve in peace stations but also provide treatment under very harsh physical environments,πππ this comes with it's own set of challenges and requirements. You need to be dedicated, equipped with evidence based medicine and highly motivated to get the job done- it is not an easy task & you will falter at times, but the reward outweighs the hardships by a landslide.
You need to be well aware of the professional and personal aspects of being in the military. It is competitive and every move you make counts, thus in order to succeed you will need to go above and beyond the line of duty.
These days majority of doctors in forces are foreign trained with cutting edge knowledge and skills.
You are both a soldier and doctor at the same time, so remember to always put your best foot forward.
Best of both worlds π.
Best of luck to embark upon a journey destined to bring hope and health to many in need. If anyone needs in depth advice, feel free to contact me =)
I'm so happy to have so many undergrads and postgraduates reach out for career guidance! My time as a physician has given me a lot to learn and it truly makes me happy to pass small morsels of wisdom on to the younger generation. It's very uplifting to read your messages and see that even first year medical students are charting their careers upto their sub-specialty! π₯Όπ
Talk to your seniors, whether they're your professors, demonstrators or even students. Take the guidance they have to offer and make your decisions wisely.
We're always here to guide you young ones and help you in any way possible!
P.s. for those who are applying for internships, please e-mail your CVs and In Shaa Allah we'll have you over π
If your university is closed or if you're preparing for your postgraduate exams and have some time on your hands, try to take part in internships. Go to different hospitals and reach out to as many departments as you can to gain some perspective and experience.
Don't let your time go waste, go learn and stumble and relearn. We've already had a few students apply for internships and we're looking forward to more! Start as early as you can to build a solid repertoire, every bit helps you to learn how to interact with patients. π it's very competitive now and we even have 10-year-olds applying for Head of Department!π
May is mental health awareness month. I've seen children and adults suffer from an array of mental health illnesses and unfortunately they aren't addressed. Our society and culture often don't consider mental health with the same gravity as that of physical health.
If you're suffering and are in need of help, reach out to someone. Heal yourself & let yourself take the journey to mental peace. Ask after the people around you, check up on your friends and family.
"Mental health is not a destination, but a journey. It matters how you drive, not where you're going"
My mental peace happens to be in the mountains with some pine trees. π²π²π²
IΒ would like to shareΒ my early days of practicing medicine in under served areas where merely seeing a qualified doctor was luxury. I served in far flung, difficult to reach mountainous regions of Kashmir and provide treatment to local communities. As there was dearth of any sophisticated lab facilities you have to rely on your own clinical skills and judgement and practice medicine making the best use of meager resources.
Then as a junior specialist in a far flung hospital in KPK I remember receiving a referral of extremely preterm and low birth weight twins from a far flung area near the border. They were wrapped in cotton and brought in an ordinary vehicle barely breathing.
Having seen a situation this sensitive with such harrowing odds, and then coming face to face with the most modern & dedicated neonatal transport team armed with technology I had only heard of till then, it opened my eyes to the fact that our equipment, technology, clinical expertise & training can truly turn the tides
Fast forward 20 years... Now having developed and working in one of the most advanced neonatal units of the country I thank Allah Almighty to have come this far and be able to serve our community.
My early days in medicine and training abroad in the best hospitals of World enabled me to provide and train students to uphold the best standard evidence based care required from us by all stake holders.
That is what I expect see in future doctors and consultants. I expect that they harness the advancements in technology and become well versed in all aspects of clinical excellence.
May Allah help us keep our intentions pure and be the best doctors we can beπβ¨
