By creating ecosystems of inclusion throughout Pakistan through the Centers of Excellence for Financial Inclusion, NOWPDP aims to empower persons with disabilities by helping them acquire skills (Hunar) so that they are integrated into society.

To do so, NOWPDP conducts basic literacy training for persons with disabilities at the Markaz in Sujawal.

We are delighted to announce the successful renewal of our training center's affiliation with STEVTA - Sindh Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority for the next three years.

This collaboration reaffirms NOWPDP's commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable skill development, enabling persons with disabilities to integrate into society as financially empowered individuals.

During this renewed period, graduates from Computer Operations and Call Center Agent training will be placed in relevant jobs.

We express our gratitude to STEVTA for their continued support and look forward to advancing our shared mission of empowering individuals through quality vocational training.

To celebrate World Braille Day, our visual class trainers at the Moriro Markaz conducted an awareness session in the school garden.

The focus was on highlighting the importance of Braille as a crucial tactile reading and writing system for persons with visual disabilities.

The activities included demonstrations of teaching methods, braille charts, and tactile models to engage students into gaining valuable insights as to how persons with visual disabilities learn and communicate through Braille!

With policies such as that of the Government of Sindh allocating a 5% job quota for persons with disabilities in the public and private sector, implementation has become vital.

Therefore team NOWPDP works for the skills development of persons with disabilities so that they can become a part of the workforce.

The stitching trainees in sujawal have completed their training and final assessments after which the team will facilitate their job placements in Karachi and Nooriabad textile industries.

Breathing Books is back!
NOWPDP’s signature event where persons with disabilities become human books to tell their intriguing stories.

NOWPDP, in collaboration with FM 91, conducted a breathing books session at Dolmen Mall to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities!

This intervention allows women to earn a livelihood and became financially independent in face of the dual marginalisation they face due to their gender and disability.

Under NOWPDP's Rickshaw project, the team financially empowered two persons with disabilities by enabling them to establish their own businesses using a retro-fitted cart bike.

Mushraf Hussain will be using a retro-fitted cart bike to run his wholesale clothes business in various Bachat bazaars near Korangi.

Additionally, Muhammad Bilal will be using the retrofitted bike to provide pick and drop services near Baldia town.

NOWPDP hosted team Habib Metro Bank at the NOWPDP house in Karachi for a NOWInclusive tour.

The tour consisted of various interactive and disability simulation activities to give participants an empathetic experience in disability inclusion and at the same time give a lesson in sensitization through immersive learning. From experiencing interactions in sign language to learning about possibilities, tools, and ways to navigate through physical and virtual spaces without sight, the activities put disability in a clear perspective of where we stand and where we need to go in terms of inclusion and empowerment.

Leadership and ownership are instrumental in bringing about change in mindsets for an inclusive society and we are grateful to Habib Metro Bank for stepping forward to play its role as a thought leader in disability inclusion.

The one-window SCNIC Camp in Hyderabad saw a massive turnout of persons with disabilities committed to get their Shanakht!

Bringing the Health Department, SPDPA, NADRA, and beneficiaries under one roof, our intervention camp ensured timely and efficient provision of Special CNIC and disability certificates.

Regular process of getting these basic documents can take up to 6 months and multiple visits to various government offices.

Inaccessibility of the process discourages most persons with disabilities from getting their Shanakht.

When persons with disabilities remain uncounted, policy and infrastructure do not take them into account causing them to be inaccessible.

Therefore, team NOWPDP in Rawalpindi distributed 11 wheelchairs to beneficiaries to enable ease in their mobility.

Most of the beneficiaries had no access to wheelchairs previously and stated, “NOWPDP just gave us the wings to fly.”
