Given the recent drama on display at multiple FB groups and videos, the team at Thrift.pk would like to add its two cents to the matter. A PSU or a power supply for your gaming PC is one of, if not the most crucial components of your gaming PC.

It should never be overlooked or ignored as it can become the leading cause of failure in a modern gaming PC. Given that most of the team at Thrift.pk works on high-end builds, we do not have to interact with brands like AIGO, Thunder, and Redragon as well as at least 2 recent distributor-pushed brands, all of which tend to fall below our stringent quality standards for a PC's internals.

Building a PC is, we feel an important job and one that should be done with complete knowledge of the matter. This is not always on offer by a variety of sellers, many of whom perform trial-and-error learning sequences on their clientele's hardware. This is unbecoming and highly unprofessional.

Some observations regarding the current PSU scandal that are necessary:

1: PC builders and their clientele often want to save as much money. Cheaping out on the PSU is often the fault of both parties as budgets are constrained.

2: Misinformation is rife. A PSU simply being able to run a particular GPU does not qualify it as capable of doing so in the long term or even being able to handle sudden changes in voltage and current requirements.

3: The standards that exist such as ATX 3.0, 80+, etc are for your safety and are easy enough to read about and understand. They should not be undermined, ignored, or simply considered yet another sticker you can put on a PSU box for fun. Likewise, protections in play like OCP, OVP, etc are not just things you can just put as a tall claim on any PSU without actually having done the research.

4: Damage to internals rarely happens overnight due to a substandard PSU. That is why even the cheapest of PSUs can often run PCs well for a few months before taking out something an order of magnitude more expensive than them. This makes the entire approach penny-wise, pound foolish.

On the flip side of the equation, it seems clear there is an agenda in place too:

1: Unscrupulous sellers are simply leveraging the free 'airtime' available as a means to score points. This also shows their utter ignorance of the situation and facts. You can not take a casual look at a PSU's cable and determine its quality. You can not weigh the PSU and consider it better or worse based on its raw weight. Lastly and most importantly, you can NOT look at the internals of a PSU in 2 seconds to determine that it looks 'similar' to its previous design. It is the quality of the internals that matters, not your 2 minutes of fame.

2: Seller groups claim to want to air both sides of the argument. This seems quite questionable primarily since the admins/moderators of said groups are not novices when it comes to PC parts. This seems to be an exercise to maximize reach/engagement etc for drama. It can however result in people making poor choices thanks to their need to score points. This should be avoided especially in a yet-to-mature PC gaming market like Pakistan.

To everyone involved directly or indirectly with this entire saga: Do better. Be better. Stop milking the situation and actually learn how a PSU works and what makes a good PSU instead of doing absolutely nothing based on very limited knowledge or an agenda. I'm sure you can find a better use for your time and hopefully your clients' money and audience's time.

This is directly why we will never pay for access to any audiences to ANY PC gaming group in Pakistan as a partner/vendor/marketing team and likewise take no freebies from the same market that can result in us compromising our ethics when dealing with our clientele. It is why we build a significant number of the highest-end gaming PCs you see in Karachi and our clientele trust us: We earned it and we didn't jump the queue by pulling marketing stunts and drama.

This is not TikTok, it is often years of savings at the client's end for a gaming PC, not your fiefdom to score points on and push your own substandard product.

This will be used to research and understand how V merged with Johnny Silverhand and why Cyberpunk won the best ongoing game award at TGA. Therefore, as Mr. Jazil would like to tell his brother, Mr. Ickrash, it is strictly a work-based machine.

He would also like to add that the RGB lights are there to help ascertain how many colors there are in the universe and the Majin Vegeta GIF was there when the cooler was installed. All subsequent attempts to remove it for a more 'sober' alternative have failed, sometimes violently.

When asked how he plans to claim this back as a business expense at home, Jazil said that nobody would "ever believe he spent 2 million to play Cyberpunk 2077 anyways" and "bhai ko nahin batana, bolna Photoshop ke course ke liye thora heavy GPU chahiye howta hai".

Meet Monsieur Hermain. He asked for a discount on his newly built PC. We offered a barter for a Facebook Selfie with his PC on our page. He refused. But it turns out inflation is a massive issue lately.

Anyhow, moving swiftly forward, Hermain would like you, the audience (and his extended family that will judge him) that the PC is “not for gaming” and “Call of Duty Warzone Ka Zikaaar nahin karna, ghar pe bohat maar parhay gi. Ye likh nahin dena, abba aaj kal waise bhi gym ja rahay hain”.
