Keeping in view of several hazardous winter SMOG episodes in Lahore over the past years, an in-house developed Prototype PM2.5 Sampler has been deployed at the rooftop of the Institute of Energy & Environmental Engineering (I3E), University of the Punjab Lahore under HEC funded research grant (SRGP) for the project titled, “INVESTIGATION OF PM2.5 DURING SMOG AND NON-SMOG DAYS IN LAHORE; SOURCES AND ITS MITIGATION”.
This research project will quantify the percent contribution of various PM2.5 emission SOURCES in Lahore such as industries, vehicles, secondary particles, biomass/crop burning, etc., based on solid scientific and technical grounds.
The findings of this study will also help government agencies such as Pak-EPA, Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), etc., in policy making and strategy development to mitigate and/or minimize intensive smog episodes based on solid research and technical grounds.
