Hydraulic Structures Safety Evaluation Unit

In view of the recommendations of the Flood Management Committee, Chief Minister Punjab accorded approval for the establishment of the Hydraulic Structures Safety Evaluation Unit (HSSEU) in the Irrigation Department to evaluate the health of flood protection infrastructures in Punjab which was established as a part of the organizational setup under Drainage & Flood Zone Lahore as per the following TORs:
(a) To set out protocols for safety evaluation.
(b) To carry out at least two inspections in a year (pre-flood and post-flood seasons) as per the set-out protocols and convey observations to the field formation for rectification.
(c) To refer the complicated issues, observed during the inspection, to the engineering institutions or experts outside the department, if required.
(d) To maintain a database of inspections; health status, geotechnical information, previous history, and measures taken for repair and maintenance for reference and decision-making.
HSSEU remained actively engaged in the safety evaluation of hydraulic structures and carried out pre-flood, post-flood, and periodic inspections of 57 small dams, 13 barrages, main canals, and other hydraulic structures since its creation in February 2016.

• Use of Latest Equipment for Safety Evaluation.
