IEEE UET Lahore arranged an industrial tour on 6th January, 2024. This was a field trip to the 1180MW Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power Plant at Bhikkhi. Student of different sessions were present and had the chance to explore the premises in a guided tour.

Marking its 70th anniversary, Pakistan Cables in collaboration with the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) held a seminar, ‘Ignite Possibilities’, on the evolving landscape of sustainability in engineering. With students and professionals in attendance, the event inspired the academia and practitioners to develop thought leadership in sustainable development.

The event featured three masterclasses by: Imrana Tiwana, Convener of Lahore Bachao Tehreek and a Board Member of Lahore Conservation Society; Raza Ali Dada, Managing Partner of Nayyar Ali Dada & Associates; and Hafsa Naeem, Country Director at Bondh E Shams.

The seminar extensively explored Pakistan's environmental challenges, sustainable urban development, and innovative engineering solutions to tackle climate change.

Raza Ali Dada is a seasoned architect with a proven track record in successfully delivering a spectrum of architectural projects, encompassing commercial, hospitality, education, healthcare, institutional, and residential designs. Currently serving as the Managing Partner at Nayyar Ali Dada and Associates, he upholds a legacy established by his grandfather. As a LEED accredited professional, he specializes in the meticulous design and implementation of environmentally responsible and high-performance buildings.

Sana Ibrahim, a seasoned lawyer, has dedicated her career to the development sector, contributing significantly to organizations such as the Council-For-At Risk Academics and the UNESCO Chair on Human Rights, Democracy, and Peace. Specializing in human rights and sustainable development, she focuses extensively on empowering refugee and conflict-affected individuals and communities. Presently, she serves as a Trustee and Development Director at Bondh E Shams, embodying her commitment to fostering positive, long-term change.

Imrana Tiwana stands as an eminent architect, environmentalist, urbanist, and sustainable development specialist with a profound focus on green mechanisms, cultural preservation, and heritage regeneration. Having led the Task Force on Urban Development in Punjab, she was selected by the Malaysian government to develop a comprehensive reassessment of their urban planning initiatives. Imrana currently holds the esteemed position of Principal at ITA, Imrana Tiwana & Associates, concurrently serving as the Convener of Lahore Bachao Tehreek and a distinguished Board Member of the Lahore Conservation Society. Internationally, she represents Pakistan with distinction at UNESCO, WHW, ICOMOS, and INTBAU.

Mr. Umer Shahid has earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from UET Lahore. He currently serves as a lecturer at UET. Furthermore, he is the author or co-author of 7 papers in international refereed journals and conference contributions. His research interests encompass various aspects of power electronics and nonlinear dynamic control systems, with a primary focus on power electronic converters, multilevel inverters, smart grids, and bidirectional power flow control. He also conducts research on nonlinear or chaotic studies of converters. His knowledge and expertise are a valuable asset within the gem5 community.

Mr. Ayaz Akram earned his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from UET Lahore and his Master's from Western Michigan University in Computer Engineering. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of California, Davis, one of the world's most prestigious universities. As a research-oriented academic professional, Mr. Ayaz is also a graduate student researcher at UC Davis, delving into various facets of computer architecture, including high-performance computing, confidential computing, hardware security, and machine learning. He has published papers in various academic conferences and journals. He possesses extensive expertise in gem5 and has contributed to the development of gem5, and gem5art tool enhancing reproducibility and structured experiments with gem5.
