On 2nd September 2024, Ms. Mariyam Idrees, Lecturer at FMMC, conducted an insightful session on “21st Century Advertising”. Advertising in the 21st century is defined by the transformative impact of digital advertising, which has revolutionized how brands connect with consumers. Unlike traditional methods, digital advertising leverages data analytics, social media, and search engines to deliver highly targeted and personalized content. Ms. Mariyam Idrees provided an insightful overview of the features available in 21st-century advertising. This includes a deep dive into modern strategies such as digital platforms, personalized ad targeting, and the integration of advanced technologies like data analytics to enhance brand visibility and consumer engagement. She discussed the significance of advertising, highlighted 23 popular techniques, explored neuro-marketing, reviewed the 7 most common forms of advertising, and explained the anatomy of design in the 21st century. Esteemed faculty members actively participated, engaging in the discussion about the future implications of 21st-century advertising.

The Open House session of FMMC took place on September 6, 2024, where Dr. Ali Ashraf (Assistant Professor) and Ms. Yakhshi Saleem (Senior Lecturer) provided valuable insights into the field of media and communication, as well as the faculty's programs, to prospective students. Our alumni, Ms. Rameen Memood and Ms. Areesha Batool, also shared their learning experiences at FMMC with the students and their parents.

On August 26, 2024, Dr. Farahat Ali, an Assistant Professor at FMMC, conducted an insightful session on the integration of AI into media and communication research. The session focused on Google's Gemini integration within Google Workspace tools such as Gmail, Google Docs, PowerPoint, Excel Sheets, Google Meet, Google Video, and Google Drive.
Dr. Farahat provided an overview of the features available through Google’s AI-driven tools within the Google Workspace. These tools offer capabilities such as automated email responses in Gmail, enhanced document editing and formatting in Google Docs, advanced data analysis in Excel Sheets, and intelligent meeting summaries in Google Meet, Google Video's AI capabilities include automated video creation, while Google Drive leverages AI for smart file organization and retrieval, making research data management more efficient. He also guided participants through creating a free signup to access these tools.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where Dr. Fawad Baig (Dean & HoD at FMMC) and other esteemed faculty members participated actively, discussing the future implications of AI in media and communication.

On August 15, 2024, the Dunya News team, including Mr. Omer Malik (Executive Producer) and Mr. Muhammad Shahzeb (Assistant Manager - HR Dunya Media Group), conducted interviews with students at FMMC, UCP, for internship placements at Dunya News. Dr. Atif Ashraf (HoD at FMMC) served as the primary focal person for this activity, with Ms. Rubab Nofal (Associate Producer at UCP TV Production House) supporting the organization of these interviews. Dr. M. Irfan Ali (Assistant Professor), a focal person of FoHSS, was also present. A total of 35 students from FMMC and FoHSS were interviewed. At the conclusion, Dr. Fawad Baig (Dean of FMMC) expressed his gratitude to the Dunya News team for conducting these interviews.

FMMC organized a viva examination to assess the final-year projects of BSMC students specializing in Theater, Film & Television. The projects, which included short films and documentaries, were supervised by Dr. Hina Adeeb, Dr. Atif Ashraf, Mr. Omer Saeed Qureshi, Mr. Hamza Ayub, and Mr. Kamran Butt. The panel of external evaluators featured Mr. Bilal Razzaq (Senior Producer, Geo TV) and Syed M. Hassan Zaidi (Filmmaker and Faculty member at the National College of Arts, NCA). Mr. Ahsan Farooqi (Senior Lecturer at FMMC) and Muhammad Kamran Butt (Principal Lecturer at FMMC) made arrangements of this activity as focal persons. The external evaluators provided valuable feedback on the projects and praised the students and their supervisors for their efforts. Dr. Fawad Baig (Dean, FMMC) also shared his thoughts and commended the students' work.

Communication Times (April to June 2024).

As part of the Student Pedagogy Partnership Program of UCP, a unique collaboration between Ms. Sara Shah, a lecturer at FMMC, and Ms. Aqsa Imran, a BS student, highlighted the value of educational partnerships in the closing ceremony of the Spring Cohort of this program on July 29, 2024. They worked together on the "Fundamentals of Advertising" course, revamping the curriculum through weekly meetings to brainstorm and implement strategies for a more engaging and effective learning experience. At the end of the semester, they gathered student feedback to further refine the course for future classes. The closing ceremony was honored by the presence of Dr. Hammad Naveed, Pro-Rector of UCP. Both the instructor and student received certificates of appreciation from Dr. Hammad Naveed and Dr. Fawad Baig, Dean of FMMC.

Students of MS (Film & Digital Media) organized two seminars under the supervision of Mr. Omer Saeed (Lecturer) at FMMC on 13th July 2024. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Bilal from the College of Art & Design at Punjab University delivered an engaging talk titled "A Semiotic Analysis of Film Symbolism and Metaphors." The second seminar, "From Foley to Final Mix: The Journey of Sound in Film," was presented by Mr. Usman Rana, a lecturer at Department of Theatre, Film & Television, School of Media and Mass Communication, BNU. He discussed the essential role of sound in film, covering aspects such as foleys, recording, and digital audio workstations, and shared insights from his experience in the gaming industry. The event was attended by Dr. Atif Ashraf (HoD at FMMC), Mr. Kamran Butt (Principal Lecturer & Focal Person for FTD at FMMC), Mr. Muhammad Shahid, Mr. Ahsan Farooqi, Ms. Yakhshi Saleem, and students of the MS (Film & Digital Media) program.

M.Phil Media & Communication (Research Track) from University of Central Punjab FALL 2024 - Apply Now

Faculty members from FMMC, including Dr. Sadaf Zahra, Dr. Fahad Anis, Ms. Yakhshi Saleem, and Ms. Tabina Sirhindi, attended the International Communication Association (ICA) Regional Hub (Pakistan) at FC College University on June 21-22, 2024. The event gathered 150 researchers, academicians, and media professionals from Pakistan and around the world to discuss the theme "Communication and Global Human Rights." The ICA Regional Hub featured insightful sessions, panel talks by distinguished scholars, and interactive online connections with other regional hubs and the main conference in Australia.

FMMC organized the Final Project Display on July 9 & 10, 2024, for BS students specializing in PR & Advertising. This event showcased various projects, covering Advertising and PR Campaigns, and Product Launches. Dr. Hammad Naveed (Pro-Rector, UCP) graced this event with his presence. Dr. Fawad Baig (Dean FMMC) briefed him on students’ skills in campaign development, digital marketing, and content creation. Viva exams for these projects were also conducted. The external examiners were Prof. Dr. Abida Ashraf (Chairperson, Department of Public Relations & Advertising at PU), Mr. Osama Mehmood (Director Marketing & PR, Lahore Development Authority), Mr. Zahir Sulehri (Incharge CM Media Cell, Directorate General of Public Relations, DGPR), and Mr. Syed Umair Hassan (Chief Public Relations Officer, Municipal Corporation Lahore). Dr. Ali Ashraf (Assistant Professor), Dr. Sadaf Zahra (Assistant Professor), Dr. Fahad Anis (Senior Lecturer), Ms. Tabina Sirhindi (Senior Lecturer), and Mr. Ahsan Farooqi (Senior Lecturer) made arrangements for these viva exams, and project display.

A seminar titled "A Semotic Analysis of Film Symbolism & Metaphors" will be held on July 13, 2024.
