World AIDS Control Day 1 December 🎗 🚫
Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is the most advanced stage of HIV infection. It is a chronic, potentially life-threatening condition caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV attacks the body's immune system, which is responsible for fighting off infections and diseases. Without treatment, HIV can progress to AIDS, which can lead to life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers.
Here are some of the symptoms of AIDS:
Fever
Fatigue
Night sweats
Swollen lymph nodes
Weight loss
Diarrhea
Skin rash
Mouth sores
Pneumonia
Tuberculosis
The most severe stage of HIV infection
People with AIDS can have a high viral load and may easily transmit HIV to others.
People with AIDS have badly damaged immune systems. They can get an increasing number of opportunistic infections or other serious illnesses.
Without HIV treatment, people with AIDS typically survive for about three years.
Working Public Health Authorities on AIDS Control
Public health experts have long been responsible for surveillance of the spread of communicable diseases and for population-based interventions to alter the course of epidemics. Over the course of the AIDS epidemic, public health providers have increasingly been drawn into supplying primary care services for HIV-infected individuals.public health response to the needs for surveillance and prevention of HIV/AIDS and the role that public health departments play in delivering health services related to the epidemic. It begins with the debate that has raged around whether HIV and AIDS should be treated as an exceptional condition or as one subject to traditional public health measures to stem the spread of infection.
Public health policies and practices are determined and implemented at all levels of government—federal, state, and local.

Many historical concepts, trial and error, the advancement of the fundametal sciences, technology, and epidemiology have all influenced the history of public health. when Edward Jenner's 1796 discovery that the cowpox vaccination prevents smallpox and James Lind's 1756 clinical trial of different dietary treatments for scurvy in British sailors have practical applications in the modern era, as nutrition and immunisation practises have a significant impact on population health in both developed and developing nations.

The Goals and Objectives of Public Health

Public health is a science that is aimed at protecting and improving the health of individuals, communities and greater populations, which may be as small as a neighborhood or as big as a region of the world.

Regardless of the size of the populations they serve, public health professionals, work to prevent health problems from occurring or reoccurring, and mitigate the effects when problems do occur. They accomplish this task through educational programs, the creation and implementation of policies, the administration of services, and through research. Therefore, a major objective of public health is to promote healthcare equity, quality, and accessibility.

The objectives of public health may be carried out through public or private endeavors, and many times efforts are coordinated among a number of private and public entities. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the goal of public health is to prevent disease, promote health, and prolong life among the population as a whole. Therefore, public health initiatives are aimed at fostering conditions in which people can be healthy within specific populations.

The World Health Organization recognizes the main objectives of public health initiatives to be:

To assess and monitor the health of communities and populations at risk so as to identify health problems and priorities
To formulate public policies designed to solve local and national health problems and priorities
To assure that all populations have access to cost-effective and appropriate care, which includes health promotion and disease prevention services
In short, the goals of public health are to save money, improve the quality of life, help children thrive, and reduce human suffering by:

Assuring the quality and accessibility of health services
Preventing epidemics and the spread of disease
Preventing injuries
Promoting and encouraging healthy behaviors
Protecting against environmental hazards
Responding to disasters and assisting communities in recovery.

Today, CDC issued an urgent health advisory to increase COVID-19 vaccination among people who are pregnant, recently pregnant, who are trying to become pregnant now, or who might become pregnant in the future to prevent serious illness, deaths, and adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Today's health advisory strongly recommends COVID-19 vaccination either before or during pregnancy because the benefits of vaccination for both pregnant persons and their fetus or infant outweigh known or potential risks.

Additionally, the advisory calls on health departments and clinicians to educate pregnant people on the benefits of vaccination and the safety of recommended vaccines.
