WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK 2022
will focus on strengthening the capacity of actors that have to protect, promote and support breastfeeding across different levels of society. These actors make up the warm chain of support for breastfeeding. Target audiences including governments, health systems, workplaces and communities will be informed, educated and empowered to strengthen their capacity to provide and sustain breastfeeding-friendly environments for families in the post pandemic world.
Breastfeeding is key to sustainable development strategies post-pandemic, as it improves nutrition, ensures food security and reduces inequalities between and within countries. The theme is aligned with the thematic area 1 of the WBW-SDG 2030 campaign which highlights the links between breastfeeding and good nutrition, food security and reduction of inequalities

World First Aid Day 2021: Theme
According to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the theme of World First Aid Day 2021 is “First aid and road safety”. Its main aim is to spread awareness of how first aid can prevent injuries and save lives every day and in a crisis situation. It also promotes the accessibility of first aid.
World First Aid Day: History
In 2000, World First Aid Day was started by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). Do you know that every year, more than 100 Red Cross and Red Crescent Society people are made aware of the benefits of first aid in the world? Also, it raises awareness about the need for first aid and the right way to use it.
Also, IFRC says that first aid should be available to everyone because it helps at the time of the accident and sometimes it is effective also in saving the lives of people.
World First Aid Day: Objectives
– The first aim of World First Aid Day is to do necessary actions to save the life of injured or diseased people.
– The second aim is to handle the condition of an injured person by giving first aid and try to avoid infection.
– The third aim is to take the injured person immediately to the hospital before any mishappening.

Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance such as pollen, bee venom or pet dander — that doesn't cause a reaction in most people.
When you have allergies, your immune system makes antibodies that identify a particular allergen as harmful, even though it isn't. When you come into contact with the allergen, your immune system's reaction can inflame your skin, sinuses, airways or digestive system.
SYMPTOMS:
○Hay fever, also called allergic rhinitis, may cause:
•Sneezing
•Itching of the nose, eyes or roof of the mouth
•Runny, stuffy nose
•Watery, red or swollen eyes (conjunctivitis)
○A food allergy may cause:
•Tingling mouth
•Swelling of the lips, tongue, face or throat
•Hives
•Anaphylaxis
○An insect sting allergy may cause:
•A large area of swelling (edema) at the sting site
•Itching or hives all over your body
•Cough, chest tightness, wheezing or shortness of breath
•Anaphylaxis
○A drug allergy may cause:
•Hives
•Itchy skin
•Rash
•Facial swelling
•Wheezing
naphylaxis
○Atopic dermatitis, an allergic skin condition also called eczema, may cause skin to:
•Itch
•Redden
•Flake or peel
○Anaphylaxis:
Some types of allergies, including allergies to foods and insect stings, have the potential to trigger a severe reaction known as anaphylaxis. A life-threatening medical emergency, this reaction can cause you to go into shock. Signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis include:
Common allergy triggers include:
•Loss of consciousness
•A drop in blood pressure
•Severe shortness of breath
•Skin rash
•Lightheadedness
•A rapid, weak pulse
•Nausea and vomiting
CAUSES:
Common allergy triggers include:
•Airborne allergens, such as pollen, animal dander, dust mites and mold
•Certain foods, particularly peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish, shellfish, eggs and milk
•Insect stings, such as bee stings or waps stings
•Medications, particularly penicillin or penicillin-based antibiotics
The National Eye Donation Fortnight is observed every year from
25th August to 8th September.
It is a campaign which aims to create mass public awareness about the importance of eye donation and to motivate people to pledge their eyes for donation after death.
Blindness is one of the major public health problems in the developing countries. According to World Health Organization, corneal diseases (damage to the tissue covering the front of eye called cornea) are among the major causes of vision loss and blindness after cataract and glaucoma. Approximately 5% of the world’s population is blind due to corneal diseases alone.
In most cases, loss of sight can be corrected through 'Eye Donation". After the death of a person, various organs can be donated and can be surgically transplanted to the patients who need them. One such organ is the eye. By donating eyes after death, a corneal blind person can see again through a surgical procedure known as corneal transplantation, where the damaged cornea is replaced by a healthy cornea from the eye donor.
All we need to know about eye donation: Eye donation is donating one's eyes after his/her death. Only corneal blind people are benefitted from donated eyes. Corneal blindness is the loss of sight due to damage in the tissue covering the front of eye called cornea. Anyone can donate their eyes irrespective of age, s*x and blood group. The cornea should be removed within an hour of death. Eyes of donated person can save the vision of two corneal blind people. Eye removal takes only 10-15 minutes and leaves no scar or disfigurement of the face. Donated eyes are never bought or sold. Eye donation is never refused. Contact the eye bank to become a registered eye donor.

World Breastfeeding Week 2021 began on
Sunday 1 August
and ends on
Saturday 7 August
Set every August for the first seven days of the month, World Breastfeeding Week aims to highlight the huge benefits that breastfeeding can bring to both the health and welfare of babies, as well as a wider push for maternal health, focusing on good nutrition, poverty reduction and food security.
The event is organised every year by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), a global network that aims to protect, promote and support breastfeeding around the world. Along the way, it works with the World Health Organization and Unicef to get its aid to the right people in the right communities.
World Breastfeeding Week begins each year on the 1st August and runs right through until the 7th.
Of course there are many different demands on busy mother’s, meaning that women who may want to breastfeed their babies haven’t always got the support to continue this. Busy working schedules, alongside the many other challenges that modern women face can mean that women don’t always feel that breastfeeding their child is something that is an accessible option to them.
Breastfeeding weeks aim to raise awareness of the health and wellbeing outcomes of breastfeeding and the importance of supporting mothers to breastfeed for as long as they wish.
World ORS Day 29 July
How ORS Helps In Dehydration And Diarrhea.
What Is Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS)?
In simple terms, ORS is nothing but a mixture of salts and sugar. When diarrhea occurs, water and electrolytes (sodium, chloride, potassium, bicarbonate, etc.) are lost from the body through the body. If the fluid and electrolyte balance in the body is not maintained by replacing the lost salts and water, dehydration occurs. To prevent dehydration, ORS is recommended. The salt and sugar mixture in ORS stimulates water and electrolyte absorption from the gut thereby aiding in the replacement of the lost salts in case of diarrhea and vomiting.
How To Make ORS?
Here are a few steps you need to follow while:
• Take a glass and empty the contents of the ORS packet into a glass.
• Now add filtered water (or boiled water which is cooled down) in the glass.
• Stir with the help of a spoon so as to mix all the ingredients properly.
You can even make ORS at home to restore salt and sugar balance in the body.
Home made ORS:
• Take a cup (200 ml) of the clean water. Make sure the water is boiled and cooled down/filtered or bottled water. Do not use tap water as it carries a high risk of contamination which in turn can worsen the condition.
• To this, add a teaspoon (5 gms) of sugar and a pinch of salt.
• Stir to mix all the ingredients properly and ensure the sugar is dissolved completely.
Tips To Keep In Mind When Taking ORS:
• Adults can drink the solution directly from a glass but for kids, use a spoon or a cup to feed.
• Do not use milk, soup, fruit juices etc instead of water to mix the contents.
• It is always advised to make a fresh drink every time and throw away the solution.
• ORS is considered to be a safe and most effective treatment for diarrhea (both in kids and adults). However, if the condition is worsening or if the symptoms still persist it is best to consult your doctor for a detailed diagnosis and treatment.
World Hepatitis Day (WHD)
is recognized annually on July 28th, the birthday of Dr. Baruch Blumberg (1925–2011). Dr. Blumberg discovered the hepatitis B virus in 1967, and 2 years later he developed the first hepatitis B vaccine.
Organizations around the world, including the World Health Organization (WHO) and CDC, commemorate WHD to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, which impacts more than 354 million people worldwide. WHD creates an opportunity to educate people about the burden of these infections, CDC’s efforts to combat viral hepatitis around the world, and actions people can take to prevent these infections.
