"There is a quality about Poland and the Polish people that I encountered almost from day one when I first visited Poland. I was tempted to think that the Poles were different somehow, more family orientated, having a better civic awareness and pride.

But the truth is different I think, it's not the Poles who are different, it's the British, holed-up on their island and being in a very real sense, insular. What you describe happening in Poland is what any decent, civilised people would do.

Sure, the UK is helping, sending clothes, supplies and money - Boris even has a six-point plan - unfortunately it stops short of actually getting involved in the fighting.

What the general populace in Ukraine is doing now is also what any decent, civilised people would do - fight for what is theirs and what is right. Bleeding hearts and sanctions are all very well, but sometimes you have to cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war."

This is going to go on for a while lads. At the moment, the refugees in Poland are doing okay. They are being well looked after by their own family members who were working here or by the Poles. But there are more coming, so keep sending what you can at zrzutka.pl/en/8xnvmz

There's some great people out there in the West - Mike Quinn in Loughrea, Catherine Gaughan-Smith, a great friend - Tab Ramos and from Canada Oonagh Malley and Christopher Nabzdyk. Thank you all. I'll be updating everything and taking photos of the trip to the border. My wife is in the process of ordering meds as we speak.

This is a really good Polish crowdfunding site and as soon as we hit the target of 5000zloty, I'll buy medicines and bedclothes, load up the Qashqai and drive to the border.
So far 300,000 Ukrainians are here in Poland and they're getting great help and comfort from Polish volunteers.
Give what you can - 10 euro is 45zloty and we'll have sleeping bags and food for those who managed to get out of Kyiv, Lviv and Kharkiv.

Hi, this page is to help anyone in Ireland who wants to send aid to displaced Ukrainians. I'm an Irishman living in south-west Poland. The idea is simple - post aid packages to me and I'll take them directly to the Polish Ukrainian border.
We need:
Blankets
Bed Clothes
Bandages/plasters
Tinned food
Sleeping bags
Pain killers - paracetamol and so on
I'll be going once a week, leaving from my home so post whatever you can and I'll do the rest.
