Regiofund 2017 The most important events of the 1st edition of the International Co-Production Forum Regiofund.

The tenth and last pitching project presented during Regiofund was:

"Three Lions Heading Venice" (Albania)

A road movie directed by Jonid Jorgij is a story of three middle-aged Albanian filmmakers, Vani, Kaci, and Riku, whose film Being Married gets nominated at the Venice Film Festival. The film was a hit in Albania, and they plan to attend the ceremony in Venice. Three Lions… starts by showing the characters’ simple and happy married life, though this quickly changes. During their road trip through Italy, the filmmakers meet three actresses of adult movies, Rudi, Irina, and Lola. The girls inspire them to behave in a way they never knew was
possible.

Dziesiątym i ostatnim projektem zaprezentowanym w trakcie Regiofund był:

"Three Lions Heading Venice" (Albania)

Kino drogi w reżyserii Jonida Jorgija będzie opowiadało o Vanim, Kacim i Riku, trzech albańskich filmowcach w średnim wieku, których film "Being Married" został nominowany do Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Filmowego w Wenecji. Film był wielkim hitem w albańskich kinach, więc mężczyźni planują znaleźć się w Wenecji na premierze. Na początku widzimy ich w ich rodzinnym otoczeniu, są szczęśliwi. Jednakże sytuacja szybko się zmienia. W trakcie podróży przez Włochy filmowcy spotykają trzy aktorki z branży filmów dla dorosłych, Rudi, Irinę i Lolę. Kobiety inspirują ich do zachowywania się w sposób, o który nigdy się nie podejrzewali.

The ninth pitching project presented during Regiofund was:

"The War Has Ended" (Poland, Germany, Israel)

New drama from Israeli director and screenwriter Hagar Ben-Ashar is set in 1945, following a thirteen-year-old Lily has survived the war. The days following the end of the war were violent and chaotic. Children were either scattered in the woods and villages or wound up in orphanages and convents. Joseph, a marionette puppeteer, rescues Lily when she is on the verge of death. A genius in his field, his puppets seemingly have a life and character of their own. They inspire laughter, joy and excitement where there is precious little. But Joseph’s reations mask the heavy weight he carries in his heart and his secret. Lily won’t allow him to walk away from her, even as he withholds warmth and connection. While trying to discover what he is hiding, Lily persuades him to teach her the art of puppeteering. She’s talented. It gives her purpose, defines her and she slowly falls in love with Joseph. But Joseph is on a mssion… Lily and Joseph’s lives become intertwined, through circumstances, the shared sense of loneliness, helplessness and the realization that the war may never be over

Dziewiątym projektem zaprezentowanym w trakcie Regiofund był:

"The War Has Ended" (Polska, Niemcy, Izrael)

Akcja nowego dramatu izraelskiego reżysera i scenarzysty Hagara Ben-Ashara rozgrywa się w roku 1945, a główną bohaterką jest 13-letnia Lily, której udało się przetrwać koszmar wojny. Kolejne dni po zakończeniu konfliktu rządzą się chaosem i przemocą. Dzieci są rozsiane po lasach lub wioskach, trafiają też do sierocińców i zakonów. Lalkarz Joseph ratuje Lily przed śmiercią. Mężczyzna jest mistrzem w swym zawodzie, jego kukiełki są niczym żywe osoby, wywołują uśmiech, radość i ekscytację w świecie tych wartości pozbawionym. Jednakże Joseph skrywa pod maską zawodowca ogromne brzemię. Lily nie pozwoli mu się od niej odsunąć, mimo że mężczyzna robi wszystko, by odrzucić jej dziecięce ciepło. Próbując poznać tajemnicę Josepha, dziewczynka zaczyna się uczyć sztuki tworzenia kukiełek. Okazuje się, że ma spory talent, a to zapewnia jej życiu celowość. Zakochuje się niestety jednocześnie w Josephie, który próbuje wypełnić swój życiowy cel... Losy Lily i Josepha stają się ze sobą nierozerwalnie złączone, nie tylko poprzez wykonywane czynności, lecz także poczucie samotności, bezsilność oraz rosnącą świadomość, że wojna nigdy się tak naprawdę nie skończy.

The eighth pitching project presented during Regiofund was:

"The Gingers" (Poland)

The musical comedy entitled "The Gingers" is set in a charming small town, Maurice and his family (including a weird guy in a cat suit) run a traditional gingerbread shop. Just before Christmas they are visited by Maurice’s sister, Bogacka, who has an evil plan to demolish their house. To stop her, they need a large sum of money, and they need it fast. They decide to bake gingerbread in “I’ve Got a Christmas Talent” show. However, Maurice’s teenage daughter, Julia, dreams of being a singer and performing solo. She is torn between making her dream come true and helping her family. At one point, everything falls into pieces, but eventually the characters realize what being a family is all about.

Ósmym projektem zaprezentowanym w trakcie Regiofund był:

"The Gingers" (Polska)

Akcja komedii muzycznej "The Gingers" będzie rozgrywała się w uroczym małym miasteczku, w którym Maurice i jego rodzina (w tym dziwny gość w przebraniu kota) prowadzi tradycyjny sklep z piernikami. Tuż przed Świętami Bożego Narodzenia w odwiedziny wpada do nich siostra Maurice'a, Bogacka, która pragnie zniszczyć ich dom. Ażeby ją powstrzymać, rodzina będzie potrzebowała sporej sumy pieniędzy, i to w dość krótkim czasie. Rozwiązaniem okaże się być może talent show "Mam świąteczny talent". Nastoletnia córka Maurice'a, Julia, marzy jednak o solowej karierze piosenkarskiej. Dziewczyna jest rozdarta pomiędzy rodzinną powinnością a robieniem kariery muzycznej. Nadejdzie taki moment, w którym wszyscy bohaterowie uświadomią sobie, na czym polega wartość rodziny.

The seventh pitching project presented during Regiofund was:

"The Deathless Woman" (UK)

A fusion of documentary and drama, WRITTEN AND directed by Roz Mortimer, WHERE a Roma woman, who was murdered in a forest in Poland during WWII returns to haunt us, uncovering the buried history of the Roma in Europe. "The Deathless Woman" will unearth tales of persecution and resistance from the Roma people from the 1940s to the present day through an innovative approach to the supernatural, re-enactment and performance. As a spectral presence, The Deathless Woman leads us on an emotionally charged journey, revealing true stories of persecution and Roma resistance that have been omitted from the history books

Siódmym projektem zaprezentowanym w trakcie Regiofund był:

"The Deathless Woman" (Wielka Brytania)

Hybryda dokumentu i filmu fabularnego w reżyserii i na podstawie scenariusza Roz Mortimer. Romska kobieta, która została zamordowana w trakcie II wojny światowej w polskim lesie, powraca do świata żywych, by naświetlić zapomniane losy społeczności romskiej w Europie. "The Deathless Woman" opowie za pomocą innowacyjnego podejścia do kina oraz ukazywania elementów nadnaturalnych o prześladowaniach oraz walce Romów, od lat 40. XX wieku po czasy dzisiejsze. "The Deathless Woman" będzie emocjonalną podróżą do zrozumienia wydarzeń pomijanych w książkach historii

The sixth pitching project presented during Regiofund was:

"The Anselins" (Romania)

A new thriller drama directed by Dan Radu Mihai follows Bogdana, a cool, composed and determined woman, who desires to avenge her sister’s death. The woman suffered from a terminal sickness but tried to find a cure, thus getting involved with a certain spiritual leader. Unfortunately, following his advices and recommended lifestyle did not alter her state. Bogdana joins a group of six who translate the book written by the spiritual leader. The protagonist wants to expose him as a fraud and fake healer.

Szóstym projektem zaprezentowanym w trakcie Regiofund był:

"The Anselins" (Romania)

Wyreżyserowany przez Dana Radu Mihaia dreszczowiec opowiada o Bogdanie, chłodnej i metodycznej kobiecie, która pragnie pomścić śmierć swojej siostry. Kobieta była nieuleczalnie chora, jednakże starała się leczyć, co skłoniło ją do kontaktu z pewnym duchowym uzdrowicielem. Podążanie za jego radami i wskazówkami niestety jej nie pomogło. Bogdana dołącza do sześcioosobowej grupy, której celem jest przetłumaczenie książki napisanej przez rzeczonego uzdrowiciela. Kobieta chce udowodnić, że to oszust.

Let's reminisce! The fifth pitching project presented during Regiofund was:

"Squeek" (Poland)

The new adventure/comedy animated feature is set in a underground mouse city Squeek, ruled by a despot named Uncle Julius, who has created a perfect totalitarian system. 12-year-old Maya is about to spend her lifetime like every other citizen - building mysterious Machinery - a key project of the tyrant. The forbidden visit to the outside world and a friendship with Alek will start the transformation of Maya, leading her to nailing Julius, and to showing the citizens of Squeek what solidarity and freedom are.

Powspominajmy jeszcze! Piątym projektem zaprezentowanym w trakcie Regiofund był:

"Squeek" (Polska)

Nowy pełnometrażowy film animowany, którego akcja będzie rozgrywała się w podziemnym mysim mieście Squeek, rządzonym przez tyrana znanego jako Uncle Julius. Dwunastoletnia Maya nie ma przed sobą większych perspektyw rozwoju - jej życie ma obracać się wokół budowy Machiny, ważnego dla tyrana projektu. Jednakże wizyta w zakazanym świecie zewnętrznym oraz przyjaźń z Alkiem sprawią, że Maya przejdzie przemianę, dokopie Juliusowi i pokaże mieszkańcom Squeek, na czym polega solidarność i wolność.

"Sirena/Hear the Whisper" (Austria, Italy)

A surreal thriller directed by Giorgio Borgazzi follows Paul, who is looking for an inspiration for his graphic novel and visits his newfound love, G*ia, on the island to which she used to go on holiday as a child. There, he meets an eccentric old man and becomes entranced by his stories. As the island starts to unveil its disturbing secrets and Paul is unsettled by the appearance of a mysterious girl, G*ia disappears. Drawn into a maelstrom of emotions, the protagonist experiences blurring of the line between his perception of the reality and the state of delirium…

I oto kolejny projekt zaprezentowany w trakcie tegorocznego Regiofund:

"Sirena/Hear the Whisper" (Austria, Włochy)

Surrealistyczny dreszczowiec w reżyserii Giorgio Borgazziego. Będzie to opowieść o Paulu, który w poszukiwaniu inspiracji do powieści graficznej jedzie w odwiedziny do swej nowej miłości, G*i, na wyspę, którą kobieta zna doskonale z czasów dziecięcych. Tam bohater spotyka ekscentrycznego starca, który hipnotyzuje go swymi opowieściami. Na wyspie zaczyna dochodzić do dziwnych wydarzeń, a Paul nie może pozbierać się po spotkaniu z tajemniczą dziewczyną. W tym czasie G*ia znika, sprawiając, że mężczyzna przestaje dostrzegać różnicę pomiędzy rzeczywistością a wytworem swego umysłu...

The next pitching project presented during Regiofund was:

"Mediterranee/Nausicaa - the other Odyssey" (Italy)

An animated TV series directed by Bepi Vigna follows Nausicaa, a young princess eager to travel the world. When she meets Ulisse, the girl becomes captivated by his stories of cyclops, wizards, mermaids, and other fantastical beasts. Ulisse effortlessly seduces Nausica, but after stealing the princess’s heart he decides to leave her, driven by a desire to experience an adventure. To avoid seeing her daughter relive the difficult memories of a lost love, Queen Arete encourages the princess to go after the man of her dreams.

Kolejnym projektem zaprezentowanym w trakcie Regiofund był:

"Mediterranee/Nausicaa - the other Odyssey" (Włochy)

Animowany serial telewizyjny. Reżyseria Bepi Vigna. Będzie to opowieść o młodej, żądnej przygód księżniczce o imieniu Nausicaa, która daje się uwieść opowieściom o cyklopach, czarnoksiężnikach, syrenach i innych fantastycznych bestiach, które snuje niejaki Ulisse. Mężczyzna bez większego problemu owija sobie księżniczkę wokół palca, by po jakimś czasie zostawić ją na pastwę niespełnionych marzeń o wielkich przygodach. Próbując uchronić Nausikę przed złamanym sercem, Królowa Arete zachęca córkę do wyprawy śladami mężczyzny jej marzeń.

Let's reminisce this year's pitching projects selected for Regiofund, shall we? Would you like to see them on a big screen?

"A Film Odyssey" (Poland)

A debut full feature from accomplished Polish filmmaker Piotr Stasik follows Jeremy, a twelve-year-old who decides to reconstruct a pleograph – the pioneering device to record and play films. It was invented by a Pole, Kazimierz Prószyński, one year before the Lumière brothers patented the cinematograph. The idea of reconstructing the pleograph is supported by NASA, which will place the films recorded on the device in a time capsule sent into space. The film observes the subsequent stages and tasks conducted by Jeremy and his friends. The picture is a hybrid. It combines elements of narrative and documentary films with an art and science project.

Powspominajmy projekty, które zostały wyselekcjonowane na pitching w trakcie tegorocznego Regiofund. Obejrzelibyście takie filmy na dużym ekranie?

"Odyseja filmowa" (Polska)

Pełnometrażowy debiut fabularny uznanego polskiego filmowca Piotra Stasika. Opowieść o dwunastolatku Jeremym, który decyduje się dokonać rekonstrukcji pleografu - pionierskiego urządzenia do nagrywania i odtwarzania filmów, które stworzył na rok przed kinematografem braci Lumière polski wynalazca Kazimierz Prószyński. Pomysł odtworzenia pleografu wspiera organizacja NASA, która umieści nagrane na urządzeniu filmy w wysłanej w kosmos kapsule. Film będzie zapisem kolejnych działań oraz etapów projektu Jeremy'ego i jego przyjaciół. Będzie to hybryda, film łączący elementy kina fabularnego z filmem dokumentalnym, a także projektem naukowym.

Yesterday's Regiofund Closing Gala was, as you might imagine, a success.

Border Gate Award of the International Co-Production Forum Regiofund 2017 was presented to the distinguished producer Michał Kwieciński.

Best Pitch Award and 6.000 PLN went to Polish producer Marta Szarzyńska for "The Flesh."

Wczorajsza gala zakończenia Regiofund była, jak nietrudno się domyślić, wielkim sukcesem.

Nagroda Border Gate Międzynarodowego Forum Koprodukcyjnego Regiofund 2017 została wręczona słynnemu producentowi Michałowi Kwiecińskiemu.

Nagroda za najlepszy pitch, w wysokości 6.000 PLN, powędrowała do polskiej producentki Marty Szarzyńskiej za projekt "The Flesh".
