Electric cars do not burn more often - but differently, says Dr. Sebastian Meerschiff, mobility expert at ERGO Mobility Solutions.

More than a week after fire swept through the cargo ship Fremantle Highway carrying almost 4,000 cars in the North Sea, the crippled ship has been towed into port in the north-east of the Netherlands.

But what could have caused the fire in the first place? Why is it that vehicle fires have become more challenging in recent years – but across all drive types? Is it true that the fire risk posed by electric vehicles is not greater than that posed by internal combustion vehicles? And what does all that mean for the potential danger and future transport of electric and hybrid vehicles?

On //next, Sebastian Meerschiff provides an overview of the current studies and findings. One of his conclusions is that even if current studies do not show that electric vehicles burn more frequently than classic petrol or diesel models, this does not mean that there is no need for action. In particular, there is a need to respond to the different nature of the fires. This includes the installation of suitable extinguishing methods or the appropriate training of fire brigade personnel. We talked to Lea Bötticher, Head of the Berlin ERGO Innovation Lab, and her colleague Luisa Schmolke about the latest generation of VR eyewear. What has changed? And what will come?

Video games have an incredible potential that goes far beyond play, says our colleague und gaming expert Sabine Saeidy-Nory. Today, games are already used as teaching aids, therapeutic aids or problem solvers. Computer and video games are of the utmost importance as a cultural asset, driver of innovation and economic factor.

Recently, the University of Vermont showed that computer games can have a positive influence on the cognitive abilities of children and adolescents.

How do footsteps become trees? 🌳🌲

This summer, DKV launched the together with the start-up . The goal:
🚶 complete as many walks as possible on foot
❤ do something for the own health
🚗 reducing CO2 pollution
🌲 walk virtual trees

In total, all participants covered more than 444 million steps in the period from 15th August to 25th September 2022. The highlight: The virtual trees that were walked were actually planted after the campaign. At the end of November 2022, a total of 10,000 trees were therefore planted by Earthbanc, a cooperation partner of walk15.app, in Oberwambach, Rhineland-Palatinate.

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.💜 It aims to promote the well-being and rights of people with disabilities and to support the integration of those in all spheres of society - also in the .💼

For this, the "inklusion@ergo" was formed in 2020. "We are a colorful bunch, and together we learn to overcome prejudices", says Sonja Kluth, one of the initiators. The network offers a platform for many people: people with disabilities, people who work or live with sick or impaired people, and for caring relatives. But it is also open to all colleagues who want to live and support the inclusion of impaired people. Together, they enter into a dialogue, overcome insecurities and remove the taboos around the topic. Sonja Kluth and the "Inkluencers", as Kluth calls her network colleagues, want to encourage even more people to acknowledge their impairment in the future.
