OUR NAME, AUDITIONS... AND MORE

Autumn greetings from City Choir! We're back after our summer break... and we're pleased to report that all of our vocal chords are well-rested! 😁👌 We know you've missed us, so here are some updates:

Firstly, you may have noticed that we've changed our Facebook name to choir.pl – please don't panic, we are not leaving the city..! 😆 This is actually our new website address (for the FB page). Once everyone is familiar with the new address, we will probably change the FB page name to something simple like 'Wrocław City Choir'. We've also changed our logo from dark blue to sunny yellow because this reflects how happy we all are to sing in a choir 🙂

Secondly, an update on auditions. There has been a slight change of plan. Rather than one or two specific audition days in September, City Choir will be accepting individual applications for auditions in October. We will post more information at the end of September. Singers who pass the auditions will join the choir in November... in time for Christmas carols 🎅🎶🤶

Finally, City Choir has entered a choir competition that's taking place in another Polish city in late October, and for which we are currently rehearsing four songs (which our choir will have to sing without notes!). More news on that next month.

⚠️ ATTENTION CHOIR MEMBERS ⚠️

As every parakeet knows, singing is a serious business 🧐 (And never tell a parakeet that they screech, rather than sing, as they would say the same about us 🙃)

And parakeet number R87 would like to inform City Choir's singers that rehearsals start again THIS WEDNESDAY – 17 July 2024 – at 6.45pm at Wojdyła Business Park 🏢🦜

R87 would also like City Choir members to know that lateness for rehearsals by humans – or parakeets – is not acceptable 🚫😃🕖 And if you can't make it... please inform the leader of our flock, Michał Klyszcz 🗣🦜

So, avoid getting into a flap on Wednesday – and annoying R87 – and put it in your diaries..! 😄📝

WE ARE AN INTERNATIONAL CHOIR 🎶🌍🎶

That's right! We have a wide range of nationalities in our wonderful choir. For example, taking two countries completely at random, City Choir has the following number of singers:

QUESTION: DOES CITY CHOIR LIKE TO PARTY?

ANSWER: What a silly question! 😆 We may sing like angels, but that's where the comparison ends! 😉 There's a social side to singing in a choir and many of our members have years of experience of letting their hair down and partying! 🎈🥳🎉🎈

After our 'Rocking the Rynek' concert, we ate dinner at the Hard Rock Café (of course!) then hit a karaoke bar in Pasaż Niepolda for drinkies and even more singing 🎤😎🎶

Here's a photo of party queens Dorota, Magdalena and Karolina enjoying the fun – all amazing vocalists who can sing karaoke without even spilling their drinks! 😄🍹

And not naming any names, but some people didn't arrive home until after sunrise..! 😂🌅

"I really, really, really wanna sing with City Choir!"

Are you a wannabe soprano, alto, tenor or bass singer? 🤩 Need some singing to spice up your life? Want to join the coolest choir in the city? If so, here are 5️⃣ things you really, really, really need to know: 👇😁

1) You have to audition first – just like The Spice Girls did! This means singing and repeating a few musical scales – but no dancing! 😉 Full details are published in advance on our page.

2) We rehearse on Wednesdays at Wojdyła Business Park (18:45 to 21:15) – a venue fit for any superstar 😎 There are also extra rehearsals before concerts when we prepare for the big stage 🏢😍🏢

3) Just like The Spice Girls, we sing as a team 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦But there's one important difference... nobody sings solo! (And so far, no-one has left choir to start a solo career..! 😆)

4) We sing in English – just like Ginger, Sporty, Posh, Scary and Baby Spice! 👩‍🦰👧🏻👩🏻👩🏽‍🦱👱‍♀️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

5) Like the Spice Girls, we are more cool than classical 😎 We may enter a competition in the future, but we're not in this to win prizes 🚫🏆 We do it to enjoy our passion for singing and have lots of fun in the process... just like our favourite girl group did for many years! 🎈🥳🎉🎈

CHOIR COOLNESS – RESULTS ❄️📊❄️

After three days of voting, we are announcing the results of our 'How cool is City Choir?' poll

Thirteen people have voted (so far – our Facebook genius can't work out how to end the voting period 😆) That's enough for us to be confident in the result... especially as it's the result we wanted! 😂

56% of people thought we were DEFINITELY the coolest choir in the city – woo-hoo! 🥳 While 38% said we were too HOT to be cool! 😄🔥 Nobody said we were possibly the coolest 🙂 And just one choir member agreed with our logo that we are probably the coolest (we can only assume he selected the wrong option – our bass singers are easily confused 😉).

So, it's official – we're as cool as a colony of penguins on a cold day in the Antarctic! 🐧😎🐧

OUR WONDERFUL ALTOS 🎶😍🎶

Every choir needs its altos 🥰 Sandwiched between the sopranos and the tenors, they perform the important function of standing in front of the bass section, so the audience don't have to look at them..! 😉 Oh, yes... and they sing beautifully, too. We are so lucky to have them!

Our army of choir fans has now hit 300 followers!

Woo-hoo! 🎊🥳💯🎉🥳💯🎉🥳💯🥳🎉🎊

We're celebrating so loudly, they can probably hear us in ancient Greece! 🏛🤪🏛

But we're not stopping there..! 🤩 If we are to conquer the entire choral world 🎵🌍🎵, we need more good men and women to join our ranks 👨‍✈️👩‍✈️... so they can fight our corner on the social-media battlefield (by liking / sharing our posts on Facebook) ❤️📣

The good news is there is no physical – or mental – fitness test to join our musical army. Yes, we will take absolutely anybody! 😁 So sign up today, if you haven't already 📜🖋 And please like and share this post to spread the word about the coolest choir in Poland (probably!) ❤️📣

SO... WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG?

There was an absolutely HUGE response to our appeal for votes on your favourite City Choir song. The response reached double figures as 14 people (including me!) voted. (And if you think 14 isn't huge, you've never run a poll on Facebook! 😆📊)

The winner – by a landslide – was 'Somebody to Love' with seven votes, while 'Kiss From a Rose' came in second with three votes. 'Make Your Own Kind of Music' came third with two votes. 'The Longest Time' and 'We Will Rock You' received just one vote each... but we've checked with both songs and they are fine about it, so don't worry 😉

City Choir will be learning some great new songs when they return to rehearsals in a few weeks' time, so hopefully you'll discover a new favourite at our next concert in September.

Know your internet memes? Well, here's our version of the 'distracted boyfriend' meme that went viral in 2017. What do you think?! 😂 (If you didn't know, City Choir don't do Latin hymns 😉)

Actually, City Choir is always looking to attract bass singers (and tenors) as it's harder to find good male vocalists. So, if you're a gentleman with a good voice, look out for news about our September audition dates.

Oh, and ladies, we'll also be looking for sopranos and altos... so if you've had enough of Latin hymns, come along and audition! 😉

GASTRO MIASTO

Here's a great photo of City Choir performing at the Gastro Miasto festival on 24 May 2024. Rumour has it that the local ducks are still quacking to the tune of 'We Will Rock You'..! 🦆😆🦆

But did you know there's another Gastro Miasto festival in Wrocław this weekend? Yes – these culinary occasions are happening every month at Bulwar Xawerego until September.

City Choir won't be singing at this month's event, but there are free evening concerts on each of the three days (Fri 14, Sat 15 and Sun 16 June) featuring female Polish vocalists.

So, if you want to enjoy some live music, plus good food and drink, you know where to go this weekend. And who knows? You may bump into some City Choir members practising their singing after a few beers! 😄🍺

THE DAY AFTER THE NIGHT BEFORE

It's Saturday morning, and we've heard reports that the Wrocław rynek is still shaking after it was comprehensively ROCKED by City Choir on Friday evening..! 🎶🏢😎🏢🎶

Around a dozen members of our choir sang 'The Longest Time', 'Make Your Own Kind of Music', 'Kiss From a Rose', 'We Will Rock You' and 'Somebody To Love'... in FOUR separate locations! Plus a bonus encore of 'New York, New York' to a large crowd on the corner of the rynek.

It was an amazing evening for choir leader Michał Klyszcz, the singers and, we hope, the large crowds who heard us... including some wonderful friends and family who made a special effort to be there. We truly appreciate your support 🥰 Thank you from the bottom of our hearts... and lungs! 😁

ROCKING THE RYNEK – WHERE IS CITY CHOIR SINGING? 🏢❓️🏢

It's a good question! And you'll find the answers here, as we move around Wrocław rynek and surrounding streets between 18:15 and 20:00 on Friday 7 June.

During that time, please make sure that you refresh this post, as it will be constantly updated by Facebook admin Paul (who will be singing in the bass section). The choir will aim to sing up to five songs in each location... then move and sing somewhere else.

Our starting point is likely to be outside Bar Bara on Świdnicka street (opposite Pasibus / KFC) at 18:15. (But check here for confirmation.)

When we are safely in each location, we will post it (and our time of arrival) in the space below. Hopefully, we'll see you... maybe in more than one location! 🙂

ROCKING THE RYNEK – IMPORTANT UPDATE

With City Choir: Rocking the Rynek! 🏢🤩🏢 just one day away, we wanted to update you on the format... as it's no ordinary concert! 😁

We will actually be moving in and around Wrocław rynek over a period of about 1.5 hours – starting on Świdnicka street, outside Bar Barbara, from around 18:15. Other possible venues include the rynek fountain, Plac Solny, and outside the Masala restaurant on Kużnicza street.

So, if you can't make it for 18:15, don't worry... you can probably catch us somewhere up until about 20:00. We will post on Facebook on Friday evening and update it with our current location.

As we're moving around so much, you could call it City Choir's first official tour! 😆 Who knows? Maybe one day we will have a world tour. 😉 But for now, we'll stick with the market square! 🤩
