This is my absolute favourite piece of clothing ever. If you swipe right you'll see that it didn't exactly fit when I bought it (I was 6 months pregnant). I'm also not someone who wears black much. But over the past 7 years it has transformed into something that feels completely me, it's covered in paint and colourful stitching and I expect I'll keep adding to it forever🧵🌈💕. The first photo is my beautiful friend wearing it. I'm definitely happier taking the photos 📸😁
This is a long one 😊
I'm so happy to be embroidering again 💖. The keen sighted amongst you may have noticed that I've reverted to my handle. My relationship with my art is complicated. I am a maker with threads and yarn at heart, and embroidery, punch needle and visible mending have always been the things that have given me the most pleasure, they are my spirit animals 😁.
I started painting during COVID lockdowns and it has become a creative outlet for me that takes me to a completely different place in my heart. But I found that once you start creating 'traditional art' outside pressures appear, some imagined and some true - where do you sell your art? This question has always bothered me. I've never made anything for any reason other than I've wanted to. And I know I'm really lucky that I haven't had personal pressure to monetize my art. But then you start to wonder - where am I selling it? Should I be making more effort to sell it? How do I sell it? And as soon as I let these questions take hold, they changed everything for me. So I believed I had to be a 'serious artist', change my handle to my name and be more serious about everything. And with that, a huge part of what makes me create disappeared, along with the joy. This week with the help of my beautiful friend I realised that is the thing that makes me tick and I really need to get back to the things I love, balls to the pressures, sod the annoying comments. I won't stop painting but I need to let go of the pressure that came with it and get back myself again. If you got this far I congratulate you!! 🙏😜🌈
I can't leave anything alone. If it's a bit dull I get my threads out. Or paints. Or both 😜
One of my favourite old dresses started to fall apart (swipe to see) 😭. So I decided to try and mend it with a lovely row of flowers. 🌸🌼🌿

A joyful trio of rainbow explosions 🌈🌈🌈. Who wants a boring bedroom anyway? ☺️ These tapestries are made using a punch needle and all sorts of different yarns so each is completely unique. The backing fabric is primitive linen which is my favourite to use for these pieces.
A bigger one and actually finished 🥳. I faffed around with the background part for over a year I think. It's about an inch thick because of all the layers I kept adding. It's a problem with abstract art. They always look sh*te until they don't. And it's very easy to shove them in a cupboard at that point and start something new.
Anyway, this one suddenly worked when I added the cobweb dots. And now I love it. 😀
Some details on a little one I've been making for a while (feels like forever 😂). I'm worried I've gone a bit too bonkers on this one. I blame Coldplay. I went to see them last week and it's just a wonderful explosion of rainbow colours and joy. So maybe I should call this painting "Ode to the Spheres" or perhaps "Chris".
A couple of little works in progress, which I hope to finish before we leave Portugal for a new lift in Thailand 🌴🌺. I've been inspired by so many beautiful things here and I can't wait to see what life in Asia brings to my work.
This is a very detailed little piece and it's a little more conservative with its colour by my standards 😁. I wanted to create the effect of flowing plants or a mossy bank inside a little stream. Basically I live in a beautiful imaginary garden. And yes, fairies to exist 🤩🧚♀️
This is my happy place 💞. I'm permanently in experiment mode, trying new paints, techniques, playing if I'm honest. And this little.person is my favourite co-worker. She got me to blow inks across this canvas I'd been messing with for months (not kidding) and it was the perfect thing. 🙏🤗
Never stop playing. It's often the answer....
This one is finally finished 🥳. It's been about 2 months of work, setting down the first layers and dots and then adding the areas of weaving and embroidery. Zoooom in to see all the detail. 👀
I'm still working out how I feel about mixing my two main mediums as painting uses a completely different part of my brain to embroidery so it was a challenge working out how they might work together.
What do you think? Did it work well or should I keep them separate? 😊

Abstract and floral. 🌺🌻My things 🤗. A close up of a little one, 6 X 9 inches. Having said that, it's been a while since I did a floral piece so I'm sketching some ideas now, and will get started once my mammoth mixed media embroidered painting is done...
My favourite colour palette. I do try to move in other directions but these shades always seem to come back ☺️. This image is a close up of my final 'Rainbow Burst' piece from last year. I love making these, choosing the yarns, and watching the rainbows explode from the fabric. . If you're interested in owning an explosion on colour and textile joy let me know! Any excuse to make another 😁🌈
A new little project, inspired by my free spirited, nature loving daughter. I've been missing using all the traditional needlepoint embroidery techniques I love so much and this is the perfect way to use them💓🪡🧵🌺🌱
Rainbow Burst 4, a mixture of chaos and harmony. I'll always be a rainbow girl, they are a little bit of magic in a world that often feels too dependent on logic 😁
I started this series of tapestries during the lockdown in 2021. They were my way of accessing joy at a time when we were all pretty scared. 🌈🏳️🌈🙏
I've finally finished this big one (80cm X 80cm). It's called 'Deep in the light of Spring'. It's the biggest painting I've finished so far and it'll be hard to let go of.
Painting over the past few months has been a total lifeline. This winter has felt so LONG!! I've been waiting and hoping for signs of spring and in the last few days of February it feels like we are getting there. My rose bush is sprouting tiny new shoots from where it was pruned and there are some very chirpy birds about 😜.
I've been wanting to add embroidery to one of my paintings for a while now but every time I get to the point where sewing would start on the piece I (chicken out) decide that I like how it looks without. So this time I'm going for it and if I have to unpick it all 😁✨🪡
It's hard to explain quite how long it takes to make these particular pieces. ⏳ The stitches are made with a yarn I create from old bed sheets which I dye using chalk paint and then tear into narrow strips. Then they need to be rolled into balls before punching this frayed yarn onto the backing fabric. It's worth it though 💞🪷🌅
What do you create that is a real labour of love? 💖
An oldie but still a favourite. Flowers are always and forever my main source of inspiration. 🌺🌷🪷💐
I'm flip flopping between embroidery and painting right now, and what I really want is a way to combine these two techniques that I love so much. But my tapestries and embroideries are quite pictorial and my paintings are very abstract so it's a halard one. But experimenting with techniques is fun and so I'll keep trying until I feel something really works.. 💪🙏🪡🎨🖌️🖍️
A hippo party. With some tapestry rainbows 😁. Making these tapestries got me through the pandemic. They made me smile each day and remember that with no storms or rain these moments of beauty don't exist. 🙏🌈 DM me if you'd like anymore information on these beauties. X
This little beauty, entitled "Dreamscape 1" is finished and ready for a new home! I've been loving playing with textures and layering over the past few months and using tiny dots as ways to create even more depth.
Colour is the heart of everything I create, whether that's with paint or yarn and my dreamscape paintings (more to come) are like little explosions of colour in a magical landscape, or that's how I see them 😁. What do you see?
If interested in this piece, please DM me for details.
I've finished one of my dot paintings (not the title ☺️) and I'm really excited by how the layers of colour and texture has worked out. Thank you to everyone who messaged me about traditional Aboriginal art, I've had a wonderful time exploring Aboriginal artists from Australia 💓🙏
Here's one of the Sunrise Sunset tapestries I made out of chalk dyed strips of old sheets. 🌄🌅 They are super time consuming as the yarn is all made by hand but I love the texture of the stitches and the pastel hues.
My work is available on my website but it's definitely a good idea to message me direct with any questions or if you'd like a custom piece.
Here's me hanging out with some stuff that I made. It always feels a bit cringe posing with my work like this but it does feel nice to associate myself with something I'm incredibly proud of. I tend to embroider and paint sitting on the floor so action shots never look great 😆. Rainbows forever 🌈
I'm working on a biggie 100 X 100cm. Every day for about 2 weeks I've added new layers. It's slow progress but this one needs lots of time.
I rarely do anything as structural as this, in fact it was a test of sorts to see if I could do shapes with straight edges and points. I could! It's the colours that carry me along... 🙏
This is still a work in progress. I'm always inspired by nature and the incredible colours found in flowers, rocks and trees. This is definitely rock-pool esque. 🏝️🦀🐙
My original sunrise sunset/ sunset works, created using hand dyed strips of old cotton bed sheets. It's time consuming making the yarn but the effect is so beautiful.
I'll be adding a few mini works to my website this week. It's good to sketch and try new techniques, no matter what your medium.
