If the infrastructure is not safe and cyclists think they are safe, they are at risk. By exploring the relationship between cyclists' objective and subjective safety, our project will determine indicators that detect locations where they misperceive risk exposure.
This research aims to propose cost-effective objective-safety interventions that can correct risk exposure's subjective perception. Besides compiling potential corrective interventions, the research proposes a computer-assisted procedure for the respective Cost-Benefit Analysis to generate a cost-benefit ratio and rank them.
Ana Karina Christ is a Phd candidate in Transport Systems at the Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon.
Her research focuses on perception of objective cycling safety.

One of our research focus is in understanding how people of all ages change behaviors towards an active mobility.
Changing mobility patterns requires high quality evidence. We use data and models to ensure cost-effective investment, enabling new infrastructure to be planned where it is most needed.

Our mission is to:
- Provide technical and scientific research contributions in the urban mobility domain to promote behavior shifts;
- Collaborate with different society stakeholders to develop innovative solutions;
- Disseminate new knowledge in urban mobility between students and professionals.
"
Recently, U-Shift started a webinar series named U-Shift Talks. The aim of this project is to discuss topics outside the theme of urban mobility, that could or not be related. Professionals from diverse areas are invited to share their professional and personal interests.

The research aims to analyse how can road space can be allocated dynamically over time according to multimodal demands and land use patterns. The objective of dynamic road space allocation is to optimize the use of urban space, by allocating underutilized traffic lanes in certain periods of the day to other transport modes or activities.

Established by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1994, this date was ratified by Portugal in 1997. On this day, it is intended to exalt the importance of the sea for the country's economy and development.
This research proposes to interlink data sensing, computer vision, image processing and signal processing to create an innovative method on the topic of cyclists’ perception of safety. The aim is to scale inferences of how humans perceive risk by applying machine learning and image processing methods.
