Senor Abravanel (Silvio Santos)
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish interior motives.
BE KIND ANYWAY
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight.
BUILD ANYWAY
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow
DO GOOD ANYWAY.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough.
GIVE THE WORlD THE BEST YOU'VE GOT ANYWAY.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God

Judah ben Saul ibn Tibbon
Traduziu obras do árabe para outros idiomas.
Tais como:

Tikkun Chatzot Synagogue Rhodes
The Tikkun Hazot was one of the minor synagogues of Rhodes , built in the 1870s.
The name means "Midnight Rectif**ation" and refers to the beginning of services at dawn. It is an expression of mourning and lamentation over the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem.
It was located on Gavala 8 Street. As the Synagogue was attended by the wealthier families of the community (mainly Alhadeff family), it was also called as "El Cal de Los Ricos" the Synagogue of the rich people and the same name was given to the street "la Kaye de Los Rikos", the street of the rich people

Kahal Kadosh Gadol (The Holy Great Congregation)
Kahal Grande.
The synagogue was built replacing an existing one, which was destroyed by the Turkish siege of 1480.
It was attended by the Greek-speaking Romaniot Jews.
After the arrival of a large number of Sephardic Jews in the 1500s, the synagogue eventually utilized the Judeo-Spanish “Ladino” language and rituals.
In 1944, during World War Two, being so close to the central port was accidentally damaged by air raids of the Allies targeting German ships.
Although heavily damaged, the structural walls of the Kahal Grande synagogue remained standing for twenty years until they collapsed and the place became filled with rubble.
In 2003, the Archaeological Department in Rhodes cleared away the 4 feet of debris, which had accumulated exposing the synagogue foundation of the perimeter wall, floors, and other features.

Kahal Kadosh Gadol (A Grande Congregação Sagrada)
Kahal Grande.

Rhodes Rabbinical Seminary
Was stablish in 1928, under the Italian Fascist government, aiming to train more Sephardic rabbis.
The seminary, controverseally, was supported financially by the Italian government. Some people believe that it was a perverse act to make the Jews believe that everything was fine despite the fascist government, others believe that it was to divide the island's residents by showing support for the Jewish community and others believe that the ideia was to have influence in the education, connecting more the Sephardic communities to the Italian culture.
The seminar for the jewish community was a response to the acute crisis in the education and formation of modern rabbis, especially chief rabbis, among the Sephardim of the Levant.
The seminary was housed in three different places, first at the Hospice of Saint Catherine (modern pictures above), and in two different buildings in the new part of the city (old picture).
Facing financial difficulties of the community in 1938, at the same time that antisemitic legislation was introduced in Italy, the seminary was closed .

The Alliance Israelite Universelle School
The 1904 Dedication Plaque of the Alliance Israelite Universelle School, located in the center of Calle de la Escola (Kisthniou Street). 🖌🖍🖊
The dedication plaque above the fountain of the Jewish school of Rhodes is what left of the large educational building, damaged during the bombings of World War II, and eventually came down during the 1960s. 😔
During an August 1903 visit to Rhodes, the Baron and Baroness Edmond de Rothschild donated 15,000 francs to build the school.
The school building was completed at the end of 1904.
During the Italian occupation, the school changed its name to "Scuole Israelitiche Italiani." Different from previous schools in Rhodes, the Alliance school was attended not only by boys but girls as well.
Having also non jews as students.
Sadlly, nothing of the building left , just some pictures and the memories.

The Holocaust Monument of Ioannina
On March 25, 1944, the Jewish Community of Ioannina, Greece, was rounded up and deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Of the 1,960 deported, 1,850 would never return. They would perish in the N**i death camps.
The monument was erected on September 25, 1994, and made by the sculpture Chouliaras, Georgios (Hoularas, Giorgos).
It replaced a smaller memorial on the same spot. The location is just outside the historic Kastro (Comercial area) of Ioannina, where many Jews lived for centuries and where a historic synagogue is still located.
They have been there for 2300 years.
The area beyond the monument along the lakeshore is where many Jewish Ioannites owned and congregated in cafes, and where they were assembled by the Germans and loaded into trucks when they were deported.

The Jewish Cemetery of Rhodes
The cemetery was one of the oldest ones in Greece dating back to the 14th - 15th century and was related to the first Sephardic jews to settle in the island.
The jews in Greece lived different situations through the years, some of them really umplesent, but the N**i era was mean and destructive.
In 1936, the racial laws against the jews were implemented by the Italians. Not just segregating them, but starting the destruction of the Jewish heritage.
As in Salônica, the jewish cemitery of Rhodes have been mooved/ destroyed.
Cesare De Vecchi was who enforced the transfer of the 1000 Jewish tombs and asked for 100 the "help" to refurbished the Rhodes castle.
Tooked one year to transfer all the graves.
Sadlly, just 60 years later, the cemitery was organized, and the studied.
In the pictures, you will see the new cemitery.
The pictures that's show the football field are where wad the old jewish cemitery is.

Synagogue Etz Hayyim (Tree of Life)
The oldest synagogue in Athens is Romaniote.
It was built in 1904 by Romaniote Jews who came from Ioannina. It operated on the second floor of the building, while the ground floor was initially used for the needs of the Jewish Talmud Torah School and a section of it served as the residence of the Rabbi.
The first Mikveh in Athens was located in its courtyard.
Etz Hayyim, also known as “Yanniotiki” (from Ioannina), has a capacity of 300 people and now operates only on major holidays and special events.
Externally, the building is neoclassical in style, while internally the atmosphere is traditional Romaniote, with the bimah (Teivah or Bima) on the western wall and the holy ark (Aron Kodesh) on the opposite eastern wall, while the Torah scrolls (Pentateuch) are traditionally kept in wooden cases (Tikim).
In the years following the end of World War II, it served as a shelter for homeless survivors of concentration camps, while the ground floor housed the Community Polyclinic.

Aegina Syagogue Mosaic.
The 4th century CE mosaic from the Greek island of Aegina was built by the Romaniot community (the oldest diaspora community in Europe).
Was discovered in 1829, in the 60s, was removed and relaid at the island’s main archaeological site, the Hill of Kolona, house of the Apollo Temple, dating from 520 BCE.
The mosaic has two Greek inscriptions, lush geometric and floral designs. Thanks to the two inscriptions in Greek honoring Theodoros, the Archysynagogos who built it from donations, we know for sure that the building was a synagogue.
The mosaic is a unique diaspora jewish art example who must be preserved.

Chalkis Synagogue.
Chalkis have 2,500 years of Jewish history almost uninterrupted. Mentioned by Yosef ben Mattityahu in his work 2000 years go and by Benjamim de Tudela twelve centuries later on his jorney.
The synagogue located on Kotsou was built in 1849 after the burning of the previous one.
At this section of the city from the Venetian time's jews had always a synagogue there. The lands of today's synagogue were added to the jewish quarter at 1445.
The synagogue is Romaniote, but also, with time, it gets influences of the Sephardic jews. As we can see on the on the rebuilt synagogue style.
Something interesting about the synagogue is the fact of being adorned with ancient tombstones from the ancient cemetery of the city.
