Our boutique architecture practice, which has developed a niche in the global healthcare sector, has now added Twist Oral Shapers to our portfolio. Lisbon-based Twist is the first oral care clinic in Portugal exclusively dedicated to Invisalign orthodontics - using advanced 3D-imaging to develop unique transparent aligners tailored to individual patients, easy to place and remove. The project required a bold concept in line with Twist’s new approach to dentistry geared towards a public ‘walk-in’ concept. PSA Founding Partner Luis Pedra Silva said: ”This was a hugely enjoyable project to be involved with because we were able to draw on our broad knowledge and experience of designing healthcare spaces around the world, play around with concepts and ideas and ultimately approach the design process from a different angle. In order to create an inviting space and encourage public flow and informal entry we decided to enhance the transparency of the facade, exposing more of the interior. Our aim was to capture the attention of passers-by. The wider design layout is strongly influenced by the type of treatment taking place at Twist Oral Shapers and the idea of brief consultations, which is distinct from conventional dental clinics." PSA has carved a niche in the international dental sector designing clinics around the world including Care Implant Dentistry and Chatswood Diagnostic Centre in Australia, T Clinic, Mint Dentistry Clinic and ‘O Meu Dentista’ clinics in Portugal and Spain, plus Brighton Implant Clinic and Maida Smiles Dental Clinic in the UK.

Pedra Silva Arquitectos has been crowned winner of the ‘Public Building Interior’ category at the 2021 Surface Design Awards. It comes after reaching three separate categories at this year’s event - widely recognised as a reference for the global architecture industry - attracting more than 110 entries from 15 countries. PSA Founder and Managing Partner Luis Pedra Silva said: "This is the first time we have entered the Surface Design Awards and we're naturally thrilled to have made three separate shortlists and scooped the prize for 'Public Building Interior'. The Maida Smiles Project helps illustrate our unique and personal approach, with a firm emphasis on collaborative design and transparent working relationships with clients. Like many of our projects we also partnered with local artisans to provide an intimate and bespoke design solution, involving acute attention to detail. This is part of our broader mission to create spaces which genuinely fulfill their purpose and contribute to the wellbeing of those who occupy them."

Pedra Silva Arquitectos has been 'Highly Commended' at the Private Dentistry Awards 2020. We received the award in the 'Best Brand & Design' category for work involving Maida Smiles Dental Clinic, London. Our Founder Luis Pedra Silva said the team is thrilled with the commendation from the flagship event for the UK dentistry sector. “The last time we entered the PDAs was 10 years ago - when we secured ‘Best New Practice’ with Brighton Implant Clinic – so there’s a nice symmetry in receiving this accreditation a decade on. It’s important to highlight recognition from third party experts as it underlines the expertise we have developed over the years. We are proud of our portfolio in the global healthcare market where we have built a reputation not only for world class architecture but also first class technical design - with solutions addressing workflow, equipment and procedures in surgical and operating areas. Our projects span across Europe, Africa and Australia."

We are delighted to announce our Founder and Principal Architect Luis Pedra Silva has been selected as a jury member for the highly prestigious awards . Luis joins a panel of 15 international architecture experts to adjudicate a series of leading projects from around the globe throughout December. The appointment provides a strong endorsement for Pedra Silva Arquitectos and helps underline the calibre and experience of our operation, which has been working internationally for almost two decades. The role will increase visibility for our brand and provide a platform to express our opinions and share our thoughts from a professional perspective. FRAME is a hugely important publication for the global architecture industry, setting the global agenda for spatial design. It's terrific to be part of that discussion.

We are currently advising clients including a major global tech firm with strategies which can be replicated across multiple sectors - including Commercial Office, Hospitality, Leisure, Retail, Dental and Healthcare. Our team can help optimise workspaces to protect your staff and customers while crucially maximising efficiency. Ultimately, these spaces now need to be fluid and responsive to new working patterns and a more transient workforce. New measures include special transit-zones adhering to ‘safe distance’ rules, systems to control office density with staff layout plans, space divisions and all necessary signage instructions, with further measures to boost hygiene - particularly in areas such as elevators, toilets and gathering spaces.
