It's an instrument used to open the "door" of the wine barrels. As simple as a piece of wood with an iron stick, is one of the icons of the wine estate. Everyone loves it and photos with it are mandatory!

This is a "lagar".
A "lagar" is a low rectangular tank, of variable size, mostly made of granite, where people tread the grapes. Currently, there are cement presses, stainless steel presses, or even old stone presses lined with stainless steel with temperature control.
Stepping is laborious and expensive as it requires a lot of labor, so it is reserved only for quality wines whose purpose is extraction. The treading provides a high extraction of not only color but also polyphenols, tannins and other compounds producing wines with depth of structure and flavor.

With him, your day will be full of laughs from the start to the end. Leadership and caring for every guest, he is also the fashion icon of our family - all the time with the best presentation ever (looks like he goes to a wedding every day, which is unbelievable!).

This is a Cooper's Knife.
This characteristical object from Douro is an iron knife used in the cleaning and maintenance of wine barrels. With this is possible to remove sediments from the oak barrels and is also great to correct fissures in the wood.

Nuno, Manuel's son, is the youngest of our family but is also the most knowledgeable one when the subject is wines. Studying to become a sommelier, Nuno is a WSET2 and is responsible for the wine selection of our tour. Charismatic, with a sharp humour, Nuno will give you good laughs and funny classes on Douro wines.

Here you can see one of our exclusive events - opening of a Vintage Port Wine by FIRE 🔥 This is a traditional method of opening for very old bottles when there is the risk of cork crumble. Because Port Wine has a great aging capacity inside of the bottle (with wines that can stage for over 100 years) in Douro this process is very well apreciated.
