I have always been fascinated with history and art.
It is one of my pleasures to learn about a certain period’s characteristics. That is how I learned that the Edwardian period was mostly influenced by the Art Nouveau movement which came from France.

The main inspiration of this period was nature itself and the beauty that it possessed.
Some of the greatest artists of the Edwardian era are: Gauguin, Manet, Matisse and Van Gogh whose artwork was introduced in England by Roger Fry.

Personally I am a Van Gogh lover!

Have you ever wondered what vintage stands for?

Curious or not, actually the term vintage was used at first in relation to winemaking or vinification.
It was firstly adopted in the 15th century and it originally comes from the Latin “vindemia” (grape gathering).

In the fashion industry, the term “vintage” refers to clothing that comes from a previous era (ranging from 20 to 100 years back) and clearly reflects that period’s characteristics.

𝑰𝒓𝒂 𝑽𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒈𝒆 has been born out of my desire to bring the light back on the Edwardian and Victorian clothing and show how the beauty of those periods can make a woman shine today as well. 🤩

Personally, I would like to have the ability 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 and just contemplate and enjoy whatever surrounds me: nature, the chirp of a bird, the movement of the branches, the murmur of the rivers…

But wait, even though I cannot physically stop time, I can however incorporate sustainability in my creations.

Slow fashion means that in the process of creating clothing, the resources and processes used are sustainable. The outcome is better quality, long lasting garments that involve fair treatment of people, animals and nature.

Have you ever wondered what women's role was in the Edwardian society?

Well, women ought to:

✨have heirs;

Yes, that was a requirement of the era.
The lady of the house had to promote luxury. She did so by wearing different outfits for every activity of the day and by throwing parties where no expense was too much.

Because of this the visits to the modiste were so frequent and a women’s wardrobe in the Edwardian times was huge.

Even though times have changed and women’s role in society is certainly more diverse nowadays, many women guard a fascination for the Edwardian Age.

Being part of the Edwardian high society was a privilege granted by king Edward which of course many desired but few achieved.

Basically, girls had to make their appearance in society by the age of 18 and secure themselves a marriage. Girls did not have the privilege of studying as men did, they only knew how to play the piano and dance since they were expected to become welcoming hostesses.

Being a debutant meant lots and lots of preparations so that the wardrobe may fit any ballroom occasion, thus many visits to the modiste.
Although stressful, the debut was one of the best periods for the girls.

Have you ever wondered how Easter was celebrated during the Victorian and Edwardian Ages? 🤩

Well, I think you will be surprised to find out that it was during the Victorian period that Easter chocolate eggs were introduced for the first time.
Another tradition that emerged then was the one of hiding eggs to be found by children.

Also, decorating churches with flowers was a common practice in the Edwardian times around Easter. Families used to attend the religious ceremonies together and they also exchanged greeting cards among them.

These are just a few Easter traditions from the Edwardian period.

The beginning of the 20th century gets us closer to the modern ages. Women's clothing becomes more feminine and elegant.
