How does this cover make you feel, compared with what you would have felt back in 2017 the AI was considered a fantasy?

Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) has been in the spotlight lately, with some calling to halt its development. Researchers say GPT-4 could be an early, incomplete version of AGI.

We think the more important question is what does our anxiety and insecurity about AGI say about our beloved selves? Are we so vulnerable and insecure about our sovereignty over the reality we have created for us? Do we feel our existential importance is endangered by technology? Do we feel like if technology (hypothetically) takes over the world, it will protect the world from us? What would that mean? Will it develop self-awareness and agency? With what implications for us?

Historically, we've been trying to predict the implications of new tech. Yes, some our concerns are valid (like the ones regarding data leakage and cultural appropriation or security) , but we're not helpless. We've successfully controlled the development of certain technologies before, and we can do it again.

Some people envision doomsday scenarios with AGI, but is it really that terrifying? Or is it just advanced technology that seems like magic, as Arthur C. Clarke once wrote? AGI combines math, statistics, modeling, chat, and visualization techniques, reflecting human intelligence at work.

So, what can we do? We must demystify AGI, put controls in place, and remember that we're in the driver's seat, not the machines (at least for now).

Curious about AGI? It refers to an intelligent agent's ability to understand or learn any intellectual task that humans or animals can. It's a common topic in sci-fi and future studies, and also known as strong AI, full AI, or general intelligent action. Let's stay informed and proactive! 💡🤖

We take immense pride in the growth and fortitude of Agora Robotics, the robotics spinoff from Modulab. Their revolutionary robots are designed to enhance people's lives in a technology-driven economy, harnessing the cultural intelligence amassed through our intricate tech-centric Modulab initiatives.

Simultaneously, Modulab is gearing up for a comeback that will propel the convergence of art and technology onto the Romanian new media art scene.

Used to being trendsetters in the realm of creative technology at Modulab, the report from The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) is a soothing affirmation of our intuitive understanding of the robotics landscape.

#1 Energy efficiency
If its a significant world problem, it's a problem our team in Agora Robotics ruminates on. From the supply chain to the green robotics reflexes and communication protocols, we're on a "go green or go home" mindset. Our industrial robots can operate at high speeds while consuming less energy than traditional assembly lines. Innovative power-saving modes and energy-saving technologies further increase their efficiency.

#2 Reshoring
Resilience is driving the trend of reshoring in various industries, and robotics plays a vital role in this process. Manufacturers are using robots to produce powerful batteries cost-effectively and in large quantities for electric vehicle projects, eliminating the need for shipping heavy batteries. Chip production is also being restored, with robots playing a critical role due to their precision. This trend is expected to accelerate as the supply chain becomes more localised, thats' why we make EU robots with as many EU parts as possible.

#3 Ease of use
This is a trend Agora Robotics is surfing since its inception. Our main goal as an R&D robotics company was democratising industrial robot operation and we started development with this in mind. This ease of use drives the development of new applications and opens up new opportunities for small and medium-sized companies. With pre-configured software and easy installation options, lower-cost robots are also becoming available. This trend is expected to lead to increased adoption of robotics in a broader range of industries.

#4 Artificial intelligence and digital automation
Connected robots are transforming manufacturing, with artificial intelligence (AI) playing a pivotal role in improving performance and efficiency. AI algorithms are used for optimised processes, predictive maintenance, and vision-based gripping, helping manufacturers and logistics providers deal with changing products, orders, and stock. This trend will likely continue as 5G mobile networks and cloud computing enable fully digitalized production, making cables on the shop floor obsolete.

#5 Second life for industrial robots
With an average service life of up to 30 years, industrial robots can be given a "second life" through refurbishment or upgrading. Robot manufacturers are running specialized repair centers close to their customers to provide this service, making it more resource-efficient and cost-effective. This trend is expected to continue as manufacturers look for ways to extend the lifespan of their equipment and reduce waste.

Covid has reset relations between people and robots 03/03/2022

The pace of automation is likely to accelerate, for two reasons, a panel of robotics experts told the 2022 meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (aaas), held for the second year running in cyberspace, rather than in Philadelphia, as originally planned. The first reason is that covid-19 has created social changes which look likely to endure. The “Great Resignation”, in which millions around the world have quit their jobs, may in part be a consequence of lockdowns creating new opportunities for home working. These so-called lifestyle choices about which jobs to do, together with creaking supply chains and a boom in e-commerce, have left warehouses and many other businesses struggling to recruit workers.

Our Story

Modulab is a research and development lab based in Bucharest with more than 10 years experience in prototyping. Their early projects focused on interactive installations for art and entertainment (interactive art, interactive museum exhibits, interactive installations for advertising agencies) and then evolved into industrial R&D projects. For the last couple of years, Modulab team, focused mainly o robotics R&D, prototyping several types of robots - social robots (its own version of Inmoov), photo robots, swarm robots and industrial robots. In the last 2 years Modulab has developed an autonomous robotic platform capable of navigating complex environments, avoiding obstacles and collisions with multiple possible applications: inventory auditing robots, logistics sorter robots, mobile industrial robots, delivery robots etc.
