104 years ago, on 31 October 1918, our world lost one of the greatest artists of all time and at the same time my favourite: Egon Schiele, an Austrian expressionist painter who created hundreds of wonderful artworks throughout his short life and career.
We lost him too early! He died at the age of 28 of Spanish flu.
Some consider Schiele's works to be grotesque, erotic, pornographic or disturbing, putting it all in a negative light.
I think this is what makes his works so special. This is why they are simply superb and true masterpieces! They reveal a person's journey of general knowledge and self-discovery, his own authentic perception of reality, his own way of experiencing life...
To commemorate this sad anniversary, I wanted to share one of my dearest paintings. A reinterpretation of his well-known "Self-Portrait with Physalis". A painting in which I tried to place myself in his skin.
