Suntem recunoscători să anunțăm că Artown Festival face parte din portofoliul de proiecte al Ploiesti - Capitala Tineretului din Romania 2024 , cu sprijinul Primăria Ploiești , Fundatia Judeteana pentru Tineret Prahova & Eurospirit.
Împreună avem oportunitatea să contribuim la transformarea Ploieștiului într-un oraș al artei și culturii urbane. Alături de comunitatea locală deschidem noi căi de exprimare creativă, regenerând urban, dar și uman orașul.

'People's dreams and nightmares all at once.'
This is what Alex Baciu sees through surrealism. Wearing double pairs of shoes, one of a festival organizer and one of an artist, he is a creator who has his own vocabulary and visual concepts, is attracted by the intersection of multiple architectural forms, signs, numerology, modern mythology and spatial analysis. He explores visual forms under the influence of pop-surrealism, illustrations, objects, paintings and murals.

"Surrealism is closer to the fantastic and mystical that people need in everyday life to escape into their own imagination. In fact, everything is more than what we see, but only if we are willing to explore into the absurd of a surrealist space. And I consider childhood to be the most surreal experience we can live".
A closer look on surrealism from Mircea Popescu - visual artist from Bucharest. Practicing a type of drawing that comes from outside the academic spectrum, he integrates comic strip fragments, typographic elements and absurd geometric structures into his compositions. With works fragmented into geometric structures with sharp edges, specific to hard-edge painting or the Super Flat art movement, the subjects in his works revolve around the idea of play, a trick on perception combined with elements from his own childhood. Mircea intentionally ignores serious, tragic, political or social subjects, looking for a visual space closer to a peaceful refuge, a world that cannot be touched by the gripping problems of reality.

When it comes to art, there's plenty of space for new beginnings. Especially when you believe that "there is freedom in doing things your own way, in being independent, and that this freedom often leads to spectacular, remarkable performances".
Those words come from our newest partner, Media Consulta International, and they're exactly why we joined forces with them this year. Cuz they are more ready than ever to embrace urban regeneration through street art. Thanks to them we're getting even bigger and even more spotlight (literally)!
