The IMD3 test (Part.1) results (160-6m) for JUMA PA1000+ 1kW PA are presented below. The tests were performed with following test setup:
- Spinner 1kW Dummy Load BN 537761 D.C. to 860MHz
- Werlatone C5425 Dual Directional Coupler (1200W/10-175MHz/50dB)
- 2 x HP8656 Signal Generators for better signal purity (signals are spaced 2KHz apart, at the interest freq. domain)
- Minicircuits ZX10-2-12-S+ combiner (typ. 3dB transmission loss)
- 7th order LPF high-quality filters for extra filtering on signal generators output and to remove any high freq. spurious or possible harmonics
- SSA3021X Plus Spectrum Analyzer with 10dB 10W ATT at input

The testing power levels were 400 to 900W, dependent on the band and gain. Results:
160m IMD 1.9MHz -38.3dBc
80m IMD 3.65MHz -38.3dBc @ 450W
40m IMD 7.1MHz -38.4dBc @ 600W
30m IMD 10.1MHz -38.6dBc @ 450W
20m IMD 14.175MHz -42.2dBc @ 850W
17m IMD 18.1MHz -37.9dBc @ 700W
15m IMD 21.22MHz -40.5dBc @ 450W
12m IMD 24.94MHz -37dBc @ 400W
10m IMD 28.85MHz -38.5dBc @ 400W
6m IMD 51MHz -28.9dBc @ 350W

Update1: For maximum power levels we are building a setup with 2 x ULTA-10 Linear Amplifiers and high-power combiner (~30W) to drive the PA1000+ up to 60dBm.

Update2: *IMD3 formula:
IMD3 = Pout (dBm) - P3rd order intermod. product (IM3)
(add 6dB in each of the measurements below, for real IMD3 result)*

Today we received the HP8656/7 signal generators and we were able to perform the 2 x tone IMD test for ULTA-10 Linear Amplifier (1-200MHz, 25dB typ. gain, ~10W). Our previous signal generator was not capable for this test (GWInstek MFG-2220HM). Test setup:
1) 50db 1200W 10-175MHz directional coupler Werlatone C5425
2) dummy load Spinner BN 537761
3) 40dB ATT at spectrum analyzer input
4) 2 x 13dBm inputs from SG (2KHz spaced) combined with Minicircuits ZX10-2-12-S+ (6dB)
5) 20m 7th order LPF after combiner
6) ULTA-10 biased at 2.6Adc / 50Vdc

Ref. Level Offset at SA is 90dB (40dB ATT + 50dB coupler).

P.3 JUMA PA1000+ testing
In today's video we are concentrating on another method to accurately measure the output power level of PA1000+ using a classic Diamond SX-100 HF PWR/SWR meter. This is a calibrated unit, on all 3 levels (30W/300W/3kW). Here it is the demo:

P.2 JUMA PA1000+ Testing
In today's video we are runing a 50-50% duty cycle CW dots sequence in order to observe the thermal behavior of the PA1000+. In parallel, some thermograpghy is done with FLIR camera:
- 30s sequence: increase of temp. of 15deg. Celsius (from 50 to 65 deg.)
- 60s CW sequence: increase in temp. of 21deg. Celsius (from 50 to 71 deg.)
- the max. temp. of ART2K0FE transistor at surface was 100deg. Celsius and the same for the corresponding 20m section.

ULTA-10 is a high linearity PA driver with MRFE6VP100H (~10W / 25dB gain) for testing and validating the harmonics behavior and IMD performance of PA1000+. The first results are below. Features:

- suppression for 2f is better than 60dbc
- suppression for 3f is better than 50...55dBc
- 1...200MHz
- typ. gain 25dB
- 50Vdc at 2.5Adc bias
- class A operation
- temperature compensated bias circuitry
- optimized for signal purity not for efficiency (it draws about 125..130W without input drive)

SA plots with performance from 10-50MHz (lower limit due to Werlatone C5425 50dB coupler, 10-175MHz) are below. 160-40m plots will be performed with home-brewed 50dB coupler/ RF sampler, next days. General observations for the test set-up:
- phase noise of the signal generator is visible in the plots (further investigation required)
- SA is attenuated at its input with 30dB ATT to avoid over-drive
- external FAN cooling for the ULTA-10 is used
- ref. level offset to 80db (50db coupling factor from coupler + 30dB at SA input)

This step being achieved the next step will be to test the IMD performance of the PA1000+.

We are very close to the start of deliveries for the PA1000+ 1kW HF+6m amplifiers to the customers, for the pending orders. Power delivery capability testing, SWR testing, all protections tested and temperature profile / behavior tested. Power delivery values have been tested/recorded with preliminary test setup:
- spectrum analyzer Siglent SSA3021X Plus, with external dual directional coupler at measuring port
- Werlatone C5425 Dual Directional Coupler (1200W, 50dB coupling) for kW to 10dBm SA input
- Spinner 1kW BN537761 dummy load
Ongoing: measurements specification file will be published soon.

P.1 JUMA PA1000+ Testing- This is the very first test on dummy load after the build up and all checkings done. New measurements available soon. Meanwhile we have updated the following:
- improved thermal transfer paste from 5.15W/mK to 11W/mK and another higher quality version with thermal and electrical conductivity also
- improved shielding of the input PL-259 connector
- improved connections of the terminals of the transistor etc.

dummy load arrived to our lab from Greece, yesterday. After some basic clean-up and connector re-silvering the unit is prepared for usage. 7/16" Radiall adapters to N-male (and female) were acquired also. At a first fast measurement it looks great. VSWR

Module didactice (oscilatoare Colpitts) de test si aplicatii de laborator, realizate impreuna cu studentii de la cercul de electronica de la facultatea de inginerie din Sibiu. Le-am pregatit pentru lectiile de la Compatibilitate Electromagnetica si cele de la Televiziune Digitala Terestra. Studentii de an 2 si 3 au lucrat sa le asambleze, iar cei de la master vor parcurge lectii practice pe ele. Cele 14 module sunt donatii din partea roWaves ca si prima etapa din proiectul de parteneriat incheiat. Proiect sub coordonarea Prof. Iulian Bouleanu si Prof. Toma Emanoil.

De ziua internațională a radioamatorismului, radioamatorii și toți clienții români pasionați de electronică, au transport gratuit la comenzi de min. 150 LEI plasate în magazinul nostru și primesc și un CADOU fain în colet :). Ce trebuie să faci?:

Ne-a luat mai mult timp sa ne adunam, tot planuiam si pana am sunat si confirmat cu toti radioamatorii din Sibiu sau care s-au mutat aici, a durat ceva. Zeci de telefoane si discutii, rabdare si consultare. Dar iata ca ne-am intalnit (deja suntem la a 2-a intalnire saptamanala). 25 suntem in grupul de WhatsApp, cel putin 10 ne-am intalnit la noul sediu al radioclubului Sibiu, YO6KME-Radioclub Sibiu. Totul a fost posibil cu ajutorul colegilor implicati Buta Andrei YO6XK, Vlad ionescuvlad.com YO6LZP si Dorin Antonovici Dorin Andrei-YO6RXV si evident cu amabilitatea tuturor celor ce au acceptat si participat. Ne-am propus multe, le luam cu pasi mici. Toate infrastructura (sediu, materiale, indicativ autorizat, organizare, antena etc.) si cred ca multe din ce sunt necesare pentru intalnirile dintre radioamatori sunt deja puse la dispozitie si organizate. Inclusiv statie de radioclub, mai modesta acum. Ne vedem saptamanal lunea, 18:00-20:00 pe Calea Turnisorului 36, Sibiu si in fiecare seara pe repetorul din Sibiu (YO6X), orele 21:00. 73 de YO6TJJ

Un prim pas dintr-un parteneriat in care speram sa ne implicam cat mai mult concret si obiectiv, alaturi de Facultatea de Inginerie "Hermann Oberth" Sibiu. Aprox. 30 de studenti din anul IV, Electronica Aplicata, ne-au vizitat ieri in cadrul unei sesiuni de tip mini-workshop de masuratori camp electromagnetic, principii de baza SDR, diverse mici demonstratii ale principiilor de modulare/demodulare etc . Studentii au fost interesati si au participat activ, am
fost surprinsi sa aflam ca au luat in serios disciplinele de "radio", contribuind activ. Au primit mici premii constand in 12 x reviste "Radio" la cei ce au fost cei mai activi si au raspuns cel mai mult intebarilor si subiectelor de discutie. Nu a fost doar prezentae, a fost interactiune chiar benefica. Acestea s-au datorat Dlui Prof. Iulian Bouleanu alaturi de care planificam acest parteneriat inca de anul trecut. Urmeaza actualizari, in curand mergem noi roWaves la facultate, cu sesiuni practice pe teme de compatibilitate electromagnetica, televiziune digitala terestra, tehnici SDR s.a.m.d.
