Introducing the Artist Feature series, where every other week we feature a new artist—some that we represent, and some that we admire. We’ll explore their unique contributions to the art world, their creative journeys, and the profound impact they’ve had on visual culture.
Today’s artist feature is: Molnar Zoltan (1937-1999).
Molnar Zoltan is a distinguished painter, known for his innovative exploration of visual arts, seamlessly blending kinetic and optical art with profound spiritual themes. His work transcends traditional visual experiences, using vibrant colors and geometric forms to create compositions that resonate with musical harmony and structural precision. He believed in art’s power to connect with the essence of existence, stating, “I hear through the media of the signs the pulse of the universe, the eternal commencement of life.”
During the late 1960s, Zoltan was part of a vibrant art movement in Timisoara, characterized by a desire to break free from imposed artistic norms. His works from this era, such as those exhibited in the groundbreaking 1968 Kalinderu exhibition, were pivotal in reshaping Romanian modern art.
Molnar Zoltan’s contributions to art extend beyond his innovative techniques and striking compositions. His work invites viewers to contemplate the profound connections between visual art, music, and the metaphysical world. As art critic Deliu Petroiu aptly noted, Molnar’s art “urges to meditation”, making it not just a feast for the eyes but also a journey for the soul.

Today we added a new work to the collection, exhibited in our interior garden at Jecza. It’s an early 1960s metal work by Peter Jecza, generously donated by Georg Lecca.
Visit Jecza gallery and discover this new addition.
.kiraly s work reflects a structured yet mysterious approach, blending formal purity with an attraction to the unseen and enigmatic. His art challenges viewers to question their perceptions and invites them to discover the underlying truths hidden within everyday objects and scenes.
Király’s projects frequently involve innovative uses of photography, such as reconstructing objects in space by projecting images from multiple angles, or exploring the embryonic state of human forms within confined spaces. His collages combine photographs with newspaper fragments and coloured pencil drawings, creating rich, layered compositions that evoke the complexity of the world around us.
Király’s exploration of space, perception, and reality finds a unique dialogue in the “Systems | East-West” exhibition, where his work is in dialogue with that of Grey Crawford. Both artists, separated by geography and cultural contexts, converge in their conceptual and photographic approaches, creating a compelling conversation across time and space.
On display until September 5th.
We use the opportunity to invite you to join our guided tours led by Andrei Jecza and Tudor Mutrescu and discover our current exhibition based on the principle of juxtapositions and similarities between East and West in conceptual and experimental photography of the 1970s and 1980s.
Today we would also like to wish Happy Birthday to Andrei Jecza, founder of Jecza gallery.
Special thanks to .projects for their generosity and friendship.
Grey Crawford’s “El Mirage” series is a profound exploration of the stark and boundless Mojave Desert. Journeying from Claremont, California, to the desolate dry lake bed of El Mirage, Crawford transforms the barren landscape into a canvas for artistic exploration. Using reflective materials and geometric objects, his work blurs the line between reality and illusion, challenging perceptions of scale and perspective.
Set against the immensity and stasis of the desert, Crawford’s photographs capture the fragile balance between human presence and nature. This series, a mix of black-and-white and color photographs, draws on the legacy of 1970s Land Art and conceptual photography, incorporating elements of performance and installation art. Each image offers a unique dialogue, reflecting the interaction between man and the vast, indifferent landscape.
Displayed for the very first time in Romania at our gallery, Grey Crawford’s works can be viewed and explored until September 5th in the exhibition SYSTEMS | East - West, which places Crawford’s work in dialogue with Iosif Király’s works from the 70s. Open hours at the gallery are as follows: Thursdays & Fridays from 12 PM to 7 PM and Saturdays from 11 AM to 3 PM. Book your visit in advance through the link in our bio, for a seamless experience.

This Thursday, July 11th, starting at 7:00 PM, the opening of exhibition, “Walking the Labyrinth”, will take place at Jecza Projects, coinciding with the opening of the “Systems | East-West” exhibition in the main gallery, which presents a dialogue between Grey Crawford and Iosif Kiraly.
“Walking the Labyrinth” explores the architecture of the labyrinth as a science of the body, representing the evolution of the subconscious from the hidden to the rectangular and mappable. Vladiana’s works evoke an entire world in a coherent system, characterized by an analytical, positivist aesthetic.

We are happy to announce a new collaboration with
Laurian Popa was born in 1980 in Arad, where he lives and works. He studied painting at the Faculty of Arts and Design in Timisoara in the class of Constantin Flondor.
The combination of compositions, drawings and objects created by Laurian Popa, forms the image of a material figurative, a bold and not familiar. A figurative that rather translates into reality an object with an unusual identity, a processing of remnants of objects gathered and recomposed into another dimension. With an obsolete identity, broken from the usual context, the image of objects becomes an exercise of decryption, assimilation, recontextualization: a signal of the decadence of a “arranged” but real space.
In this newly created dimension, the meaning of objects becomes confused, strange, sometimes giving the impression of arranged images, well-ordered “installations” that are required to be painted, where the size of the objects is disproportionate, related to the actual size of the support. The attempt to observe the reality of an object, to “feel” the corporeality, to put it out of function and to place it in disfunction, is the way the artist intervenes, by which the object observed becomes another, in a new image.

You might be used with small sized works by Maria Stoica, now she is experimenting with large scale. Each of these works are 150x200cm mixed media on paper.
“Maria Stoica proposes an organic rematerialization of everyday objects through the process of metamorphosis. Thus, the reality of static nature becomes diffuse, and objects are transformed into haunting instances of existence.” fragment by from our summer show made in 2023 made in collaboration with .ro

Where The Sun Sleeps by Tincuța Marin
exhibited at the Oratorio dei Crociferi in Venice
15.04. - 12.05. 2024
“The centre of the Oratorio is enclosed by four large-scale canvases forming a quadrangle supported by four bronze figures – Marin’s installation creates an inaccessible, inviolate space within the sacred space. The sculptures’ hieratic stance and elongated limbs hark back to an era of ancient mystique, reminiscent of the protective deities that once guarded old sanctuaries, invoking an uncanny reverence. They recall the function of caryatids standing as silent guardians of time. The paintings are a complex layering of forms and figures depicted in profile, some distinct and others blurred or overlapping, creating a sense of depth and multiplicity.” introductory note by Adina Drinceanu.

Grey Crawford (*1951, Los Angeles) is a pioneering conceptual artist known for his groundbreaking darkroom experiments in both black and white and color photography. Inspired by the geometric forms of California hard edge painters John McLaughlin and Karl Benjamin, Crawford distinguished himself from his contemporaries by infusing these shapes into his Umbra series through innovative masking techniques. Rediscovered in 2017 after being hidden for 40 years, Crawford’s rich archive of works is now included in the collections of prestigious institutions like the Getty Museum, Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and Turku Museum in Finland. He currently lives and works in Los Angeles and Denver.
“I am visual bilingual, I see in Abstract and Image. Combining the languages of painting and photography, I transcend clear distinctions to dissolve the everyday in the river of forgetfulness, arriving at a new place. My goal is to push beyond historical and mythic frameworks, offering a dynamic reinterpretation of the landscape and a new vision for contemporary audiences.” - Grey Crawford
We look forward to presenting historical works by American photographer Grey Crawford in dialogue with Romanian photographer Iosif Kiraly in our upcoming exhibition, curated by Asia Zak Persons. This project is made in collaboration with .projects.
