Kontur (Контур) is a leading Russian ecosystem that develops business software. This year it has launched its first image and HR campaign in cooperation with Voskhod. The campaign is aimed at revealing Kontur’s values and brand character to attract new team members.

Kontur’s employees are creators. The work that they do is art. The company’s products, innovative game-changing IT solutions for businesses, are true masterpieces created via a fruitful cooperation of thoroughness and creative approach.

We launched a creative activation for Kontur’s current employees. A landing page, available for internal use only, is made to be a canvas: people can create a unique art pieces that tell about their work, post them on their social media or convert into a NFT token.

The spot for Alfa Bank (Альфа-Банк) features a pigeon. There’s nothing special about this pigeon; it’s ordinary and grey. Absorbed in the hustle of a big city, it lives a routine life and finally finds courage and inspiration to achieve its dreams.

It’s a success story that everybody knows; but it’s told from a new perspective. The ad spot reveals Alfa Bank’s brand positioning: “For the smart and the free”. Even if you’re ordinary and grey, you have the power and courage to move forward, do more and fly higher.

Ivan Urgant, the bank’s celebrity ambassador, takes part in the video. Ivan hosts a popular entertainment talk show “Evening Urgant”, a Russian adaptation of American Late Night Show.

Anton Rozhin (Антон Рожин) , a Voskhod’s creative director, is a jury member at Eurobest Festival of Creativity, the region’s most renowned ad festival. He is judging works in Social & Influencer category, introduced into the festival program this year. Anton is a member of a brilliant line up of 100 professionals from 25+ countries and equal gender split.

As Anton says, Eurobest is incredibly thorough in the way it trains the jury members. Regular meet-ups take place with the organizing committee sharing details on the judging process and tips on how to stay unbiased. Moreover, Eurobest, as a member of the Unstereotype Alliance led by UN Women, asks the jury to consider whether work objectifies or represents stereotypical portrayals of gender, age, race, ethnicity, disability etc. and consider this when voting on the work.

Kulikov pastry shop is originally from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The company is currently in process of conquering international markets – so they needed a visual upgrade to support it.

The new logo and identity are universally clear for audiences from different countries. We’ve added up a modern digitalized shade to violet, the brand’s core colour.

The renewed colour scheme makes the corporate slogan ‘We can’t be bothered with any of this’ (in Russian, the idiom is: ‘It all looks violet to us’) sound free and independent.

The little cherry, which developed to become an accentual element, leaves no doubt that the brand’s products are the best fit for a nice meal.

The Awarding ceremony of Golden Drum, an East European festival, originally from Portoroz, Slovenia, took place on Friday, October 15th. We were named the best among the independent agencies of the location!

Dyatlov Pass website is the ‘Best website in a foreign language’ according to (Рейтинг Рунета) Runet Rating, a Russian award among web developers and project owners.

The website dyatlov-pass.ru has been developed to support the launch of The Dyatlov’s Pass TV-show by TV-3, a Russian channel. Visiting the site, a user can remember the details of the fatal hike, conduct their own research or propose their own version of the accident.

The Third Tashkent Ad Festival took place on the October 9th in Uzbekistan. Andrei Gubaidullin, our executive creative director, gave a lecture at the event and told about love towards customers as the cornerstone principle of Voskhod’s creative work approach.

The agency is Uzbekistan’s marketing industry (Маркетинговая ассоциация Узбекистана) partner. We signed the Memorandum on experience & expertise exchange in May 2021.

There’s been a lot going on with ‘We Will Become Better’ short film. This is a video clip to a song by Сансара/Sansara, a Russian music band that we created to support the Russian LGBT network.

The video has been getting lots of recognition at various cinematographic and social festivals. Among the most notable achievements is SILVER award at Kinsale Shark festival (Ireland) in Public Awareness & Political Party category, and GRAND PRIX at Prague Music Video Awards in Music Video category.

On October 1st, Voskhod’s Digital Creative director Mitya Maslakov gave a lecture at Digital Fest in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The conference is dedicated to development of creative economy and digitalization of the country’s business sphere.

Mitya’s lecture revealed the sources of inspiration the agency uses to create its best work. Mitya was given the honor to select the winner at Digital Fest Awards in nomination ‘Best digital video’.

For children, winter is a huge interactive playground; the best thing their parents can do is to ensure their kids have warm and safe winter shoes. This ad spot for Kotofey, a kids’ clothes brand, is one of the finest examples of Voskhod’s Ultimate Handmade video production capabilities, as all of the props were handcrafted by the agency’s designers.

Quoting the project’s website: “developed collaboratively by The One Club for Creativity and The 3% Movement, Next Creative Leaders identifies, celebrates and gives a global platform to talented women and non-binary creatives who are making their mark on the world with both game changing work and a unique point of view on creative leadership that is changing the industry for the better”.

… as a metaphor of extreme exhaustion at work — that you suffer from in vain when your business is not safe enough. This is our ad campaign we launched in 2018 for Kaspersky Lab, a global cybersecurity company. Oleg Gudilin, the company’s Head of Marketing, shared his memories about working with Voskhod:

“We were looking for ways to win more clients in Russia. Together with Voskhod we conducted market research to determine the most capacious audience segments. As a result, we launched a two-component campaign for both system administrators (the ones who use the soft) and small and middle-sized business managers (the ones who make the payment decision). There were two separate flights with specific creative, PR-activations and media placement strategies. At the end, Kaspersky managed to increase its market share by 5%, which led to a notable boost in sales. Thanks to Voskhod, and their creative and market research skills”.

Registration for Open Doors Olympiad is open!

Best Russian universities are ready to welcome the most talented students from countries all over the world. All they need to do to get enrolled and study on a no-tuition basis is to participate and win the Open Doors Olympiad established by the Association of Global Universities.

How do you like your banner done?

In 2013 we were working on Double Grill & Bar, a local steakhouse, opening promo action. The challenge was to heat up the audience’s interest towards the new restaurant. So we took the job very seriously and set an OOH-banner with an image of a huge steak on fire. Of course, it was risky, but we took all the precautions: the action was at night and on a safe location. After opening, the restaurant was fully booked for weeks ahead.

Here’s the story of how Strobbs, a popular Russian brand of sports footwear, was build; it’s told by Pavel Fominykh, the company’s partner and CFO:

“In 2011 we were looking for a qualified ad agency to help us build a sports brand for young people. Voskhod was the rock-and-roller of the advertising market at the time. They built the platform and created a name and identity for the brand. Here’s how Strobbs was born. The naming refers us to the clubbing culture and strobe lights, cause we wanted the shoes to attract attention. It’s hard to tell now whether it’s because of that branding work, but today Strobbs is a super popular brand sold all over Russia and abroad. BTW, we still use the elements of the identity Voskhod developed for us. Happy birthday guys! Keep going.”

Our next story is told by Rasa Miliauskienė, Head of Marketing of VICI, one of the largest producers of crab taste sticks, surimi products and fish in Europe. The campaign blew the minds of the audience. There was no doubt at the time: it IS cool with crab!

“In 2016 we decided to collaborate with Voskhod ad agency. It was their pragmatic expertise and crazy creativity that attracted us. When the top management saw the scripts with an old lady’s burning head and an old man coming out of a fridge, we thought we could see shock in their eyes. After thinking a for a while, our director general said: “It’s time to shake our audience up”. And you know what – it worked! The first campaign took place in Moscow and Saint Petersburg; sales spiked by 30% with 90% aided brand awareness. It was impressive.”

Voskhod’s digital media team has been keeping in touch with the latest trends in the industry; here’s what they noticed. In Russia, pharmaceutical and FMCG companies have been the leading advertisers in the TV market. Now they are outplayed by marketplaces and aggregators of delivery services. The latter have exhausted the powers of digital promotion and are conquering TV in order to build their brands.

As always, the most obvious and effective weapon in the war for audience is budgeting. The new leaders caused a major TV inventory deficit in the second half of 2021. In its turn, it will trigger media inflation; it promises to be more dramatic than in previous years.

We conducted a qualitative research on consumer patterns of marketplace users in Russia. The result is quite predictable: the online shopping trend continues to grow. The share of ‘rejecters’ (those who haven’t bought online recently) is extremely small.

The Russian Big Three is AliExpress, Ozon and Wildberries. However, in search of discounts or certain categories of goods, the audience is ready to turn to other platforms. Generally, each marketplace has a specific set of key product groups and a certain combo of rational and emotional benefits.

The main motivation to make a purchase is price. Promotions and discounts can make a user switch to another marketplace. A typical Russian marketplace user fills a shopping cart with goods at home in a relaxed atmosphere, spends up to 2 hours on the website or in the app, and prefers to have their purchases delivered at a pick-up point.

Certain categories of goods are still purchased mostly offline, for example, shelf-stable food and pet food. It seems easier to buy them at a convenience store than waiting for delivery.

The first story we want to share with you has been told by Sergei Pirogov, then-CEO of Ekaterinburg’s cold storage facility No. 3:

‘We needed to promote our new chocolate-cream ice cream, so we came to Voskhod. The naming ‘Black in White’ and the packaging that featured a cartoon character in the image of newly elected President Barack Obama against the background of the US Capitol Building was a HUGE hit in the international media market. The regional, then little-known cold storage facility got featured in all the world news outlets. The then-US Consul General of Ekaterinburg reacted to this event with great humor. The first batches of ice cream were sold out in record time, and we did not invest a dime in the promotion itself! It was an incredible success!’

This work was released in 2009; at that time, it turned out to be a prominent example of newsjacking ad technique. How, in your opinion, would people react to this packaging design today?

Art Directors Club Russia has stepped into the final stage of entry submission. In early August, the festival committee published the jury list.

This year, there are three main jury blocks: Advertising, Design and Young & Students; the latter has been singled out for the first time in history of ADCR.

Voskhod will be represented by two jury members: Andrei Gubaidullin, ECD, and Vladislav Derevyannykh, brand design director.

Whoosh — and everyone’s feeling jealous.

They’re jealous, because you use a fast & ecologically efficient way of moving around the city at short distances.

We launched an ad campaign for Whoosh, one of Russia’s most popular e-scooter rental services. Statistics says that in summer 2021 Russians have been buying 6 times more scooters than during the same season last year. The main purpose of the OOH & digital campaign is to highlight the convenience of this kind of transportation. Scooters save time, decrease car traffic and improve people’s moods.

We’ve been cooperating with thenetworkone, the world’s leading independent agencies network, for a few years now. The company helps agencies obtain global reach and finds creative partners for brands across all localities.

Via The Network One, we were able to get in touch with BBD Perfect Storm, a London-based agency that had been looking for a Russian creative agency to work on a project for Kraft Heinz Russia.

It has been an exciting experiment for us - to work on a project for a Russian subdivision of a huge international brand as a contractor for a European agency with an international aggregator as our mediator.

You made it happen – The Humpbacked Horse, an innovative ballet by Ekaterinburg-based Урал Опера Балет / Ural Opera Ballet, premiered at the beginning of July. This is a phenomenal collaboration between the theatre company and EK-Playaz, a legendary Ural rap band.

It would not be possible if it weren’t for the support of those who love ballet art. We developed the crowdfunding campaign’s website and mechanics. All the money was channeled to costumes and stage props production — as UOB found themselves crushed after the pandemic-entailed crisis.

Jaws, a popular local brewery, joined us and created a limited collection of The Humpbacked Horse branded beer. 28K bottles sold like hot cakes.

Voskhod visited the premiere performance and left the theatre deeply thrilled. Next time you’ll be able to see the ballet in autumn. Be sure not to miss it!
