When I was a child, my mom told me "Don't waste food, Because in Africa many people are hungry." But I thought, Africa is far away.

I grown up, I'm in Africa. I open a restaurant. my customers eat a lot and also waste their food.

I remember mom's word.
"Don't waste food, in Africa many people are hungry."

Now, I'm in Africa. Some are full, some are hungry in the same area.

What's wrong? Why?
What I can do??

It's not a Japanese restaurant.

So I closed my restaurant and started supporting ECD Kimihurura and community.

My dream, no hungry children in this community but quality Education, nutrition, Love & care.

As a mom, make mamas in the community happy & smile, it's our vision.

We had a little celebration & farewell party.

KISEKI First 1000 days project,

Every Saturday we have workshops & nutritious lunch gathering for pregnant & post pregnant mothers in the community.

This Saturday we share new born clothes donated from a Japanese mom.

Children explore digital devices, they are so curious!!

KISEKI community kitchen & Daycare opens Monday to Friday💕

Now we have 26 babies & children.

They used to stay home alone or with younger siblings while their mom go searching a job.
Or mom just gave up working.

Now moms go to work or hunting everyday without worrying about homealone babies👶🏿

We encourage & teach moms side-by-side to work hard & save money for the school fee.
It's all about cash flow & plannings, we need financial planners indeed🤔

Last Monday ECD Kimihurura had a introduction session with instructors from Keza Education Future Lab !

Children are so curious💕💕

We gonna start ICT class coming next term!

Children are getting used to new environment.
Especially those who were neglected by caregivers. They were staying home whole day with only little siblings sometimes without eating.

Now they totally look different!!
Very active, talkative, laughing and loving attachment!!

👩🏾‍🦱He loves to be with us, not staying alone.

KISEKI staff talk to him, hug him and play with him by turn. They are doing great, their pure LOVE and willingness to give without a thought of receiving anything in return.

Now parents are motivated and happy to take them here everyday on time!!!

However it's difficult for mama & children to have hope or motivation if they are hungry, stunning, staying home without schooling or ignored.

So this is just a first step of our long journey.

Our health worker helped us to select children staying home (sometimes alone), malnutrition, in difficult situation.

ECD Kimihurura received 30 tabletp from Keza Education Future Lab as donation!

Today we had a ceremony, welcoming the guest of honor Umrenge(sector) leader and akagali (village) leader.

We are excited to start working with Keza Education Future Lab from third term, to enhance learning opportunity and capability for all the children.

In the speech Umurenge leader prised us "ECD Kimihurura is the most successful ECD in the sector". The most honorable words😭🎉

This is just a start!! More improvement, excitements, innovation.. are coming 😆😁

A community helth worker Ms Espe joins team KISEKI!!

This is a great change we believe,

Each village in Rwanda has community health workers, ensure access to primary health care for vulnerable people. They play an important role for first aid or advice for disease, HIV/AIDS prevention, a maternal & child health etc.

Since they work volunteer bases, sometime it's not easy for everyone to consult with them. Actually I was asking moms many time, why don't they go to see health workers? Everyone says, they can meet only in emergency case.

That means the person in the risk or "just" suffering will be ignored.

Now!
What if KISEKI employ one? She can stay with us 9am-3pm, Monday to Saturday. Mamas can see her anytime!
She is expert, knows mothers and babies in the community very well. That enable KISEKI to approach those people!

As a team, we can enhance the role of community health worker!

Now we're together!! It's a great step for achieving "First 1000 days" idea.

👶🏻Maternity leave on the first day of work!?👶🏻

Our new staff Abigaeli is on maternity leave before coming to work on the first day.

She just gave a premature birth two weeks ago, and being kicked out from a hospital because of financial problem. She was desperately approaching KISEKI for seeking employment.
However she is skiny and the baby is so tiny and weak, I believe they still need a rest.

👩🏻No, you can't work. You need to take a maternity-leave.
👩🏾‍🦱🧑🏾🤱🏾🤷🏾‍♀️(my other employee) What? Seriously!? That's nice!!

Baby's health is priority.
We provide not only maternity leave & salary, but igikoma for breast milk, lunches, school fee for the elder child and mitweli.

I’m happy to announce that KISEKI is now on Patreon! It’s been a decision I’ve mulled over for a really long time. I've been insisting that KISEKI is "a social enterprise". How could I ask for support?
When the pandemic hits, I literally lost 90% of income source. I was very scared and moreover desperate to keep employment and continue or increase support for the community. How??
I was not alone. My friends around the world, customers, ex-volunteers and internship students reached out their hand.
I woke up to the fact that I'm already supported by these people. Even KISEKI and I couldn't do anything like, change our business model and continue as we are, increase support in this difficult situation, decide closing a restaurant etc...
One of the loyal customers for our KISEKI restaurant Kota-san, is consulting and pushing me to start Patreon. (He dedicated his time and effort, imagine he was just a customer!!!) I was considering my situation and expectations, so I finally decided to “launch.”

We bought water buckets from Water Access Rwanda .

It's a woman lead social enterprise that provides clean and affordable water solution.

Our new project site and ECD Kimihurura is in the middle of "downtown" Kimihurura.

There's many residence on the unpaved steep slope. When it rains, water goes down.

So the neighbor worried about rain water from our place...

We set up drainpipes on the roof which connect to a huge water tank!
We can save neighbors, money and environment in this way☺️

50L bucket for the kitchen, 10L for drinking water (purify WASAC water to drinking water!)

We'll see how it works🤔
