🔴 The Visayan hornbill (Penelopides panini) is a hornbill found in rainforests on the islands of Panay, Negros, Masbate, and Guimaras, and formerly Ticao, in the Philippines. It formerly included all other Philippine tarictic hornbills as subspecies, in which case the common name of the 'combined species' was shortened to tarictic hornbill.

🔴 Distribution: Endemic to the Philippines; occurs on the Visayan group of islands.
🔴 Description: 45 cm. Female 370 g. Small hornbill; male is yellowish-white with pale rufous belly, vent and proximal tail feathers; upperparts, tip of tail and cheeks black; bill black and prominently ridged with yellow, and facial skin creamy blue. Female all-black except for creamy tail and blue facial skin, the chin patch is able to rapidly pale or darken; juveniles like respective adults in plumage, except for smaller more reddish smooth bills. Mature by 2-3 years old.
🔴 A fairly large bird of lowland and foothill forest on Panay and Negros islands. Small for a hornbill. Bill fairly short with black bands. Has black wings, a pale buffy tail with black tip, and bare skin around the eye and chin with a blue tinge. Male has pale underparts and head with a black cheek, while female is entirely black. Male is unmistakable in range. Female is similar to female Writhe-billed Hornbill, but smaller, and lacks the red bill. Voice is a short, medium-pitched honk, reminiscent of a squeaky toy.
