Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Al Rayyan succeeded in saving the life of a 6-month-old infant, who due to an accident suffered a fractured skull and severe bleeding in the brain that caused partial loss of consciousness, mentioned Dr. David Hassanein Berro, Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spine surgeon and head of the treating medical team.
Dr. David, who holds the French board, said that the child was taken to the hospital at two in the morning, after suffering with successive vomiting episodes, and a decline in the level of consciousness, and upon arrival he received initial treatments, and then underwent several careful tests, most notably CT scan of the head, the results of which showed a fracture in the skull, in addition to internal bleeding that formed a huge blood clot that formed a great pressure on the brain.
Where he underwent an operation at three in the morning under general anesthesia, by opening the skin of the head and skull and removing the collected blood gently and very accurately, stopping the bloody bleeding, repairing the skull fracture and returning the bone to its normal position with complete success, and the operation took about an hour and a half, and the efforts of the medical team were crowned with great success, and the child was transferred to intensive care in stable condition, before being transferred after 48 hours to a normal room in the pediatric ward, and the child’s health improved steadily with intensive medical care until he left the hospital after “4” days of the operation in good health, and he got rid of all the symptoms.
Dr. David explained that the main challenge in this case is the speed of surgical intervention, as the occurrence of bleeding leads to interruption of blood supply to the brain tissue, and delay in returning the circulation of blood to normal, which may result in the death of brain tissue and loss of its function, and cause many complications that end in death.
Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Al Rayyan succeeded in saving the life of a 28-year-old patient after a complex operation to remove a low-grade glioma in the left lobe of the brain, the patient was fully awake and conscious, with continuous monitoring of speech functions.
Dr. David Hassanein Berro, Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon, head of the treating medical team, said that the patient came to the hospital after suffering an acute epileptic seizure for the first time in his life, adding that upon arrival at the hospital, he underwent several accurate medical tests, most notably magnetic resonance, where the MRI showed the presence of a low-grade glioma with a size of 124 mL, in the left lobe of the brain, specifically in the speech center, and this is a very large size by the standards of brain tumors.
Dr. David Hassanein explained that the medical team performed a delicate operation for the patient that lasted «5» hours, in which the tumor was removed with high accuracy while he was in a state of complete alertness, and with continuous monitoring of speech functions by talking to the patient and making him name things, in addition to monitoring movement through the advanced nerve monitor, and the efforts of the medical team were crowned with success, as the operation went according to the drawn treatment plan, despite the complications and difficulties that characterized it, because it required keeping the patient alert throughout the medical intervention, he pointed out that low-grade gliomas are theoretically indistinguishable from a healthy brain, as is the case with MRI, so the limits of resection are not clear, knowing that as much as possible must be removed to remove pressure from the affected area, and end the symptoms resulting from it.

A medical team at the Neurosurgery Center at Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Al Rayyan succeeded in rescuing an 11-year-old girl, who arrived at the emergency department after suffering of acute headache, continuous vomiting and deterioration of consciousness. This was mentioned by Dr. David Hassanein Berro, Consultant Neuro and Spine Surgeon, head of the treating medical team, and holder of the French Diploma of Specialized Studies (DES) in neurosurgery.
He added that upon the patient's arrival, first aid was performed by emergency doctors, and she was given conservative medicines that relieve pain, and then subjected to a package of laboratory tests, a CT scan, and brain angiography.
He explained that the examinations revealed the presence of very fine malformation of 5 mm in a number of brain vessels, which led to bleeding and pressure on the occipital area of the brain, that explained the symptoms suffered by the child. He pointed out that the treating medical team, after studying all the results of the tests, decided to perform urgent surgical intervention for the child, to prevent her from suffering more pain and brain pressure, which may expose her to death.
Dr. David said that the operation lasted 4 hours continuously under general anesthesia; a simple opening of 2 cm was made in the occipital area of the brain to the place of bleeding, where the clotted blood was withdrawn and then the vessels malformation, source of the bleeding, was removed.
Adding that after the surgery, the child was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (P.I.C.U) and was placed under observation for 24 hours. On the first day, the child's vital signs indicated a clear improvement, and on the sixth day, she was transferred to the inpatient ward to receive intensive
care.
In conclusion, Dr. David said that the child was discharged from the hospital after 7 days in good health after full consciousness returned, and all the aforementioned symptoms ended. Adding that this condition is one of the rare and very dangerous cases, which needs hospitals with great capabilities and experienced doctors.
A specialized medical team at Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Al Rayyan was able to remove two separate and simultaneous tumors in the spinal cord area of a 25 years old patient, after these tumors caused him to feel chronic lower back pain for two years with numbness in the lower extremities. This is explained by Dr. David Hassanein Berro, Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon and head of the treating medical team, who holds a French Diploma of Specialized Studies (DES) in Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery.
He clarified that upon arrival at the hospital, the patient was subjected to a package of laboratory tests and MRI, the results revealed the presence of a tumor in the second to third lumbar vertebra (cauda equina) with a size of 2.5 × 1.3 × 1.5 cm, and another tumor of a larger size centered in the first to second sacral vertebra and a size of 6.8 × 1.6 × 2.7 cm with bifurcation within the nerve duct.
Dr. David said that the presence of two separate tumors simultaneously in the spinal cord area is one of the very rare cases, as the patient is middle-aged and not elderly, explaining that based on the previous results, the patient was subjected to additional specialized MRI on the entire nervous system, in order to ensure that there are no other tumors.
After studying the medical history and all the results, the treating medical team decided to perform surgical intervention to remove the tumor, in order to reduce the existing pressure on the nerves, and also to prevent further complications such as lower paraplegia and difficulty controlling sphincters.
He pointed out that the operation lasted 8 hours under general anesthesia, in which a surgical opening was made in the back for each tumor.
Dr. David Berro stated that the efforts of the medical team were crowned with complete success, as the patient was able to move a few hours after the operation, and left the hospital within 5 days in excellent health, and returned to his daily life normally after receiving appropriate medical care.
