𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿:

👂What is the first thing we think about when the child presents with a language delay?

"𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈?"

👂Children need to be able to hear properly in order to pick up language.

👂Children with hearing impairment are at risks of experiencing language impairment.

👂Children who have recurrent ear infections are also at risk.

👂If in doubt book an appointment with your audiologist to help ensure that your child has appropriate hearing level.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝘁:

🍳 Children love cooking, cutting, stirring and getting busy as one would in the kitchen.

🍳 While playing cooking, children are indeed activating their motor skills, cognitive skills, tapping into their imagination and creativity.

🍳 Playing with others promote social skills, language skills, where they learn to take turns, negotiate, agree or disagree, wait, work together, express different concepts such as "hot"....

🍳 With just the 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝘁 children can learn different skills they need not only for their current development and growth but also learn life skills that will last them a lifetime....... and this is 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨.

🎈Teeth play an important role in children's 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and overall 𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.

🎈 It is therefore pivotal to keep our children's teeth healthy and in good condition through healthy eating and proper teeth brushing.

🎈Regular visits to the dentist is also recommended to help ensure that any oral health issues are detected early and appropriate interventions are provided in a timely manner.

World Hearing Day

Each year, World Hearing Day is celebrated on the 3rd of March. The theme for this year is "Changing mindsets: Let's make ear and hearing care a reality for all!".

World Hearing Day is an annual event organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about the prevention of hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the world. The day draws attention to the significant number of people with hearing loss and the interventions available to treat and prevent it.

Supporting clients to successfully participate and engage in different activities is part of our mandate.

WORLD CANCER DAY

Head and Neck cancer can impact talking (incl. voice) and swallowing.

Some children can easily be misunderstood.

💥At times, initial observations of children's behaviours (e.g. them misbehaving) can throw us into believing that they are 'naughty'. The sight of children throwing things around, keeping to themselves, walking around and not sitting down despite constantly being told to can easily signal "difficult child".

💫Actually, these bahaviours in some children may serve to indicate that they need structure, or calling for us to attend to them / play and engage with them, or 'I'm bored.. I need proper stimulation",... or because they have a communication limitations they just find it hard to express their needs so they use behaviours. These are just examples.. different behaviours can mean different things. This is when people who spend time around these children need to carefully observe what is the function of these behaviours in order to assist them appropriately.

🌤I got to experience this yesterday with a little friend. His big behaviours, which could have easily been misunderstood was simple indicating his need for attention, interactions and appropriate stimulation, as he was one who got bored easily. And because his communication skills was limited, it was difficult for him to express that in words. However, once these were addressed we found that under all these BIG behaviours was a lovely little child, with beautiful eye contact, a radiant smile, willing to sit and engage in the differnt activities, even requested for more and more engagement to stimulate his senses and willingness to learn.

💯Remember: some children can easily be misunderstood but spending time with them and taking the time to understand their needs may change our whole perception of them.

Little minds can take you across different places. Today, we took a step onto the farm, into the jungle, through the desert and ended up in the ocean, with a BIG splash 💦 🐳.
When you let the little minds lead, you never know where you're going to end up, nor what to expect... but we got lots of words, beautiful sentences and most importantly had loads of fun...

Sometimes what looks like simple and straight forward may have come with much effort and great determination.

Today, 8th September the world observes the International Literacy Day, under the theme
‘Promoting literacy for a world in transition: Building the foundation for sustainable and peaceful societies’.

Adequate literacy skills is the cornerstone of a society. Having good reading and comprehension skills (incl. numeracy skills) are pivotal in the development of a nation.

Help build a nation - promote good literacy skills through a strong education system.
