Drawing comics is a great way to express yourself, develop storytelling skills, and have fun. You can share stories with friends and family, and even work together!

At this workshop, you’ll create a comic strip following a drawing tutorial and encouraging guidance by artist Mark Pembrey, of Quick Draw Stories.

This is a family event, ideal for children of approximately 7 to 11 years old and their accompanying adults, who are very welcome to get involved! All materials are supplied - just bring your imagination!

 Welcome to a half term holiday special session of Wild Things Art Den, the weekly family club combining nature, art, music and storytelling. This session will take place in the Garden Hall at The Lodge, within the beautiful grounds of Sutton Ecology Centre.

We have a series of fun family activities inspired by buzzy bees!
* Bee and flower face-painting
* Bug hotel crafts
* Short nature walk
* Ukulele song and story time

The hosts are artists, nature-lovers and husband-and-wife team Mark Pembrey and Zoe Scammell. For Buzz Little Bees, we’re lucky to also have artist Ellie Wythe on board.

Introducing Mindful Drawing from Nature, a unique new drawing course for adults. Suitable for anyone with an interest in drawing in a relaxed environment.

With a focus on the natural world, this course will include observational drawing, mark-making, pattern, texture, colour and mood, drawing games and more. All of these exercises are valuable not only for achieving mindfulness, but also for practising essential drawing skills.

The course will be situated in the Cicely Room at The Lodge, amid the quiet and beautiful surroundings of Sutton Ecology Centre. Weather permitting, our sessions will involve short walks into the centre and drawing outdoors.

As well as moments of calm and contemplation, this course will have many moments of humour and joy.

Last week was all about practising manga and anime-style drawing at , and . We looked at how manga artists use fun shorthand tricks to convey emotion, and encouraged going big on expressions!

We look forward to another term of Wild Things Art Den, starting this Monday 15th April at !

Egg carton Woodpeckers at Wild Things Art Den, at ! Woodpeckers and signs of woodpecker activity can very occasionally be seen around Sutton Ecology Centre. There are three species of woodpecker in the UK: greater spotted, lesser spotted and green. We have one more class before Easter hols, this coming Monday. During Easter hols were hosting Hop Little Bunnies, a Wild Things Art Den Easter special on Sat 6th April. Tickets can be booked via our website and we’ll be making the regular Monday bookings for April to May live very soon.

Space comics at Comics Club! During the Easter hols, we’re running a course over three mornings April 9th-11th at The Vineyard School in Richmond called Alien Adventures, developing this space theme to include character creation, world-building and alien monster drawing. A few spaces are still available to book via our website.
