THE SANDBAG THEORY

MORNINGS LIKE THIS

Yesterday night
Together on the sofa
We watched Netflix and chilled
Shared chilli nachos
With a sweet and spicy salsa sauce
Ate sweet salty popcorn
And salted caramel ice cream
A shot glass of our favourite almond liqueur
After enjoying watching the final episodes
Of a true story we couldn’t wait to continue
From where we left off
We reflect and talk about it for a while
Followed by moments of intimate silences
I put back on some soft music again
So a relaxing jazz saxophone now plays low
The complimentary backdrop
To this moment
As we now watch a warm yellow candle
Flicker against a clear dark window
We lose ourselves in it’s glow
And the movement taking place outside
As we look across a finely decorated skyline
Tall buildings with bright lights
As all the pretty cars way down below
Roll by consistently in the night streets
Under and over a busy city bridge
We kissed, we cuddled
We laughed and talked
Laying there, calm and blissful in us
We don’t even remember falling asleep
I say it was the long day
And the overdose of that sugar rush
We carried our sweet selves upstairs for bed
Too tired for s*x or anything else
We climb under the duvet into bed together
Embraced in a cuddle
And fell asleep like that
All cosy
The same way we did the night before
Nice evenings like this
Make for a peaceful sleep

Not even remembering the moment

Reserved for individual sleeping

Last two nights
I’ve been too tired to care

Nestled somewhere in me
Like you always do
Whenever we hold each other close
We woke up again this morning
Looking into each other, with smiles
And you asking me, can you come over
Suggesting we snuggle up close again
And that I surrender my separate corner
Now that we are no longer asleep
And thus freeing you from yours
The place I banish you to without mercy
Whenever we are in bed together
And I’m ready to actually go to sleep
And I like that, that's nice
I like and enjoy the warmth of you
Just as much as you do, the warmth of me
Feels good, feels like it should
We cuddle and caress and we kiss
I like the new feel of your lips
So soft and plump
Plumped up more, the more I kiss them

Just like you did last night on the sofa

We realise, we're actually just like kids

Like it might have done
Twenty odd years ago
When we thought we knew
So much we didn't know
I guess that's just the way it goes

And I know

So that you’re not alone
