MOTH FROTH | Sneak peek, Doyle Sails Sweden expert and sailing legend has spent three days testing the next generation of Doyle Moth sail.
Kyle was joined by fellow sailor and kiwi Olympian Andrew Brown, who spent time on the water with Russell Coutts and his son Mattias at the Manly Sailing Club, north of Auckland. A squad of eager, up-and-coming New Zealand Moth sailors also joined the session, where a valuable feedback loop was created between the sailors and the Doyle Sails design team, who were also on the water.
👀 Keep an eye out for the next generation, launching soon!

The annual Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race consistently brings the best yachts and sailors to Sydney, where they all begin their journey south to Hobart on Boxing Day, hoping to win arguably two of the world’s most recognisable sailing trophies in the world – the Tattersall Cup for the overall IRC winner and the John H Illingworth Challenge Cup for the boat that takes line honours and reaches Hobart first.
This year a total of four super maxi’s vied for line honours. After an intense battle to lead out of the Sydney heads on Boxing Day with fifty percent of the maxis doing penalty turns, Andoo Comanche consistently led the fleet south, followed closely by LawConnect.

Well done to for taking out the Doyle Sails Swedish Moth championships hosted by GKSS - Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club. Doyle Sails swept the podium with David Gilmour taking the silver medal and Kyle Langford the bronze. Great weekend had by all and we look forward to continuing our support of the Moth class!
The first day of racing of the Doyle Sails Swedish Moth Championships brought strong and gusty northerly winds of 15-20knots. It was Phil Robertson who lead the charge on the fleet winning 3 from 4 races.
The chasing pack was lead by Dave Gilmour and the next 10 boats are grouped tightly on points with Danny Inkyov and Sam Gilmour currently fighting for the final podium spot. When the
discards come into play it should mix things up a little with some sailors carrying a few high scores.
The surprise of the day was Tom Johnson, he missed the first 3 races as he was still rigging his brand new Exploder but made it out for the final race where he gave Phil Robertson a good fight for the lead and narrowly missed out of taking the win.
Post racing the sailors had a BBQ and beers on the dock displaying the camaraderie and great culture that the moth class provides.
Sundays racing is looking to be on the lighter side with 8 knots of wind forecast which could see a change in the pecking order as all the racing and lead up so far has been on the limit.

Doyle Sails Swedish Moth Championships
22 Moth sailors representing 7 nations gathered in Gothenburg for the Doyle Sails Swedish Moth championships hosted by GKSS - Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club. Fridays racing consisted of four tune up races, which saw the fleet sailing a SailGP style racecourse in a cold northerly wind of 15-18 knots.
A very strong fleet made up of 5 x Olympians Max Salminen (SWE),Fredrik Bergstrom (SWE), Katja Salskov-Iversen (DEN) and Emil Järudd (SWE) along with SailGP sailors Phil Robertson, Kyle Langford and Tom Johnson whom all reside in Scandinavia.
The pre event title went to Kyle Langford on 11 points. Phil Robertson had an impressive 3 bullets but a gear breakage in race 1 prevented him from taking the top spot and Dave Gilmour rounded out the podium in 3rd place.
‘Bloody epic, 20 boats, reaching starts with gate top and bottom marks, breeze on and flat water, doesn’t get better than that in a moth’ commented Robertson after hitting the shore.
Saturdays forecast is for strong northerly winds but with the race course sheltered by the many islands of the archipelago it will give the sailors beautifully flat water. It will be a battle to keep the boats together with 5 races scheduled for Saturday.

Structured Luff sails not only deliver benefits to Superyachts and Grand Prix yachts but also to Cruisers and Racers. After eight years of developing and validating the performance benefits of its Structured Luff technology, Doyle Sails passed a significant milestone in 2019 when the concept reached the market-acceptance tipping point to become mainstream.
