New office arrangement for HIC! ☀️

As many of you will know, HIC has been proud to share office space at Drottninggatan 7A with the City of Helsingborg’s Department of Communication and Business (AKN). It’s enabled closer collaborations and a feeling of comradeship, especially important for a small organisation! 🤝

From now on, the department will be located across the street, leaving its partners, HIC, and in the original premises. We’ll still have access to the auditoriet, reception area, and kitchen for events.😊

Change is sometimes hard to imagine or deal with, but after a morning at our new desk, we think we’re going to enjoy even stronger relationships with the city’s other partners, and look forward to our continuing collaboration with the department across the road! 👋

Thanks to Nina, Maria, and Maja for putting the finishing touches to our new shared office! 😀

🇸🇪🌳🏠 Swedish town offers 30 plots of land for 1 krona per square metre - the initiative goes viral!

This Swedish town is selling land for the price of a cup of coffee | CNN Götene, a town in rural Sweden, is selling plots of land for just 9 US cents per square meter, to encourage new residents to come and build their dream homes.

HIC offers a range of events to help internationals settle into their new environment. 😊

Yesterday's City Walk was designed to increase knowledge of Helsingborg and create a deeper understanding of and connection to the city. By strengthening engagement with the local area, we improve the possibilities for talent retention. 🤝

The tour began with a history of Söder. The area used to be characterised by agricultural land and windmills until the 19th century, when improved harbour facilities, the arrival of the railway, and technological advances dramatically changed it forever. 🏗

We described how entrepreneurs and philanthropists like Henry Dunkers and the Krook siblings used their wealth for good, enabling the building of Dunkers kulturhus, Konserthuset, Stadsteater, and donating land to the city for green spaces such as Stadsparken. 🌳

This term's drop-in sessions ended on a high note at today!

"Share your experiences, thoughts, and feelings - both positive😍and negative😣!

🤯 From my own experience I know how much it takes to not only move abroad, but also learn the country’s language. Even though the majority of people in Sweden speak English, we can be faced with the expectation to be able to use Swedish in order to fit in – especially in the workplace.

🔍 I am currently engaged in a research project at Lund University where we are interested in learning more about experiences and attitudes of internationals in Sweden about using Swedish as a foreign language at their workplace. We created a brief online survey (ca 10min) in which we ask questions about your experiences when using Swedish at work, but also how satisfied you are with your job and how you are doing in general – good and bad.

❓Why does it matter? Because language plays such a big
role in integration and one’s daily life. We hope that our findings will contribute to identifying and improving internationals’ working conditions in the long run.

❗ The survey is completely anonymous, and you cannot
be linked to any answers you are giving. In order to participate you need to be at least 18 years old and use Swedish at least some of the time at your workplace. It does not matter what line of work you are in or how much you work. The questionnaire is in
*Swedish*, and it is therefore necessary that you have good Swedish reading comprehension. (Unfortunately, the questionnaire is not available in English, yet.)

Here's a reminder that tomorrow is the last Tuesday before September for free entry to the beautiful Fredriksdal Open-Air Museum and Gardens! 🌺

It's a unique spot, donated to the city by the Trapp family over 100 years ago.

There's a wealth of attractions to enjoy, such as old-fashioned shops and buildings moved from the city centre ahead of redevelopment in the 60s and 70s; museums; farm animals; extensive grounds; old Skanian buildings showing how people lived in bygone centuries; a windmill; a mansion house; picnic spots; playground; and of course, the rose gardens. 😍

Welcome to our annual summer picnic! 🍓

This is a perfect opportunity to make new friends and connections, especially if you have children about to start a new school the next day. We'll play kubb, the classic Swedish outdoor game also known as Viking Chess! 🇸🇪

All are welcome - please bring your own food and drink and something to sit on.

🇸🇪 Yesterday's official National Day celebration at Fredriksdal Museer och Trädgårdar was a colourful, relaxed, and inclusive event, offering many activities for the public to enjoy.

🇸🇪 Highlights included the acrobatic skills of circus school youngsters and the performances of Helsingborg Brass Band and Helsingborgs Världskör.
