With three performances done in two very different spaces, we are glad to have left our monuments and imprints in the rooms. 🔳

It’s now time to wrap up this season with photos from our performance at Malmö Cityhall as part of the European Creative Hubs Network meeting 2024, hosted by STPLN ( ). 🏢
Surrounded by historical artworks local to Malmö both under the Swedish and Danish reign, we contrasted the room and all its historical implications challenging/fighting for the rights of our bodies to exist and mark this space. 🖼️

✨Nya Rörelsen - Individual Projects 2023✨

2023 have been a milestone for our collective, where each of the five members conducted their own projects, with three of them either premiering or touring. Furthermore, the first collaborative work in three years began at Riksteaterns residency in Hallund during the Autumn (which we will share more about later).

Three wonderful and creatively fruitful weeks in productionresidency at Riksteatern Hallunda have come to an end.

Over the course of our period working on our production “Statues or To-Stand” - a work for museums/galleries and public spaces (premiering mid-2024) - we have researched various statues and it’s history, worked with concepts of ‘group dynamics in relation to vulnerability’ as well as developed/explored our methodology ‘INSTINCTIVE COMPOSITION’ amongst other. We are very much looking forward to continue this process back in Skåne, excited to soon present this to an audience. 🪨

Om projektet:

▪️ Statues or To-Stand utforskar den klassiska statyn, vanligtvis en upphöjd person som representerar ett ögonblick i tiden relaterat till en numera bortglömd prestation. De historier som berättas genom statyer avgörs i hög grad av den som styr historien. Hur kan man tänka när nya statyer ska tillverkas och hur ska man hantera de som redan existerar? Statues or To-Stand undersöker uttryck i ögonblicket som kan fånga en alltmer mångkulturell tid i mänsklighetens historia.

▪️ Nya Rörelsen består av Majula Drammeh, Khamlane Halsackda, Nidia Martinéz Barbieri, Daniel Jeremiah Persson och Rumiko Otsuka. De är alla samtida dansare/koreografer som årligen genomför såväl självständiga som gemensamma konstnärliga projekt både nationellt och internationellt. Under residenset på Riksteatern Hallunda går kollektivet samman i projektet More Than A Body som tar upp frågor om diskriminering.

The Dostoff House was built in the midst of Sweden's colonial heyday and was located in the heart of the working class center. We have not yet found any information about Kristian Dosthoff who built the house, but we know that the site has a lot to tell about the time we want to reach.
Thanks to , we now have a unique opportunity through SKULD to perform 4 sessions at the Dosthoff House on September 1-2. We hope for contact, maybe through you?

Hello from a proud moment! For the past 4 years our collective have been dreaming of our future and working towards developing our group.

This work is complex, time consuming, tiring and all those things you would expect from running a small independent company. And yet, there is also something so completely satisfying about existing in a tribe navigating this art world and trying our hardest to find common ground.

We recently learnt how valuable it is to be together. It helped us through a pandemic, and it continues to help with the troubles that come with being a freelancing dance artist. We continue to strive for a stronger community. This begins with us and we look to keep opening up and connecting with all you others out there. Please get in touch!

Rumiko was invited to teach three days workshop in Budapest! It was a summer Intensive workshop for young dancers and is a part of three years European project, "Beyond Fronte@".
With eleven beautiful and talented dancers selected from 4 different countries, we had a great dancing and creative moment together!

We in Nya Rörelsen are proud to announce that we’ve been selected for Production-Residency with “Statues or To-Stand”.

We are looking forward to dig into the depth of history and the many monuments/statues relevancy of today through the lens of representation, diversity and archiving amongst others. Can we rewrite what these entities impose/imply on society and thereby refigure the narratives into a context of today?
