Yeats and the Nobel Centenary: Europe's Welcome to the Free State
In 1923, W.B. Yeats was awarded the Nobel for his body of work that “gives expression to the spirit of a whole nation”. Yeats himself described the honour as being bestowed on him “less as an individual than as a representative of Irish literature, it is part of Europe’s welcome to the Free State”. This sentiment rings true 100 years on, as Ireland celebrates 50 years of EU membership this year 🇮🇪 🇪🇺

W.B. Yeats’ extraordinary range of work resonates with audiences in Ireland and around the world 🌍. In his lecture to the Swedish Academy on 13 December 1923, Yeats noted the influence of Scandinavian writers Ibsen 🇳🇴 and Strindberg 🇸🇪 on his work. This global literary figure continues to inspire us 100 years on.

Last week, we were stopped in our tracks when seeing W.B. Yeats’ words projected on Stadshuset, the building that made such a deep impression on him. The Nobel Week Lights artwork "History in Light" celebrated the 100-year-old Stockholm City Hall and the contributions that were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1923 🏅

Visste du att Halloween ursprungligen kommer från Irland och den keltiska festen Samhain? Samhain är en skördefest som uppmärksammar början av vintern och då gränsen mellan vår värld och de dödas värld ansågs vara som tunnast. 🎃👻🐈⬛ #HomeOfHalloween 🇮🇪
