Last week we had a lovely company development day hosted by Global Warriors, discovering what we can learn about leadership and development from horses.

Having been around for 60 million years, horses are masters at leading through uncertainty, and can teach us a lot of valuable lessons about patience, and working in unison with others, be it riders or others in their herd.

We found this experience to be truly transformational and look forward to implementing the tools and lessons we learnt for our next sessions on leadership and teamwork, as well as in everyday life!

The more subtle inclusion of wellness extends to thinking about lighting, spaces and energy around the building (one could describe this as feng shui) or the ability to create curiosity and movement by creating pathways and flows around the hotel.”

We had the chance to interview Sophie Mir from Sophie Mir Design, which caters hospitality clients across North America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

One interesting takeaway was the importance of a bespoke solution for each client:

“Wellness is very important and the trend is growing. Previously you had few hotels that focused on wellness but nowadays with more stress in our everyday most ultra-luxury hotels look at this as a necessity rather than a niche…. as wellness is very individual, it is important to find a bespoke solution for each client.”

“I believe people aren’t told how to use sauna and steam cabins properly, no one tells you how to properly use the ice in the ice basin! I think the focus has been on up-selling cosmetics and skincare for too long and actually we should be training staff to teach guests how to get the most benefits out of their sauna and steam experience, for the best health benefits. I’m very passionate about it!”

We combat this issue by enforcing quality staff training with the spas we work with. When the whole team are fully informed about their services, they provide the customers with a far better experience.
