Navigating colour design can be complex. By using the logic of the NCS System, you can amplify and validate your colour choices. Consider NCS S 7020-R70B, NCS S 5040-Y50R, NCS S 2040-Y50R and NCS S 4040-R10B. How are these colours similar?

▫️ NCS S 7020-R70B and NCS S 5040-Y50R are similar in whiteness. Whiteness is calculated by 100% - (S+C) = W and is a similarity that is useful in pattern compositions.

▫️ NCS S 5040-Y50R and NCS S 2040-Y50R are similar in hue Y50R, meaning they belong to the same colour family. Hue similarity is a common way of combining colours in an interior.

▫️ NCS S 2040-Y50R and NCS S 4040-R10B both have the same chromaticness, with a value of XX40. In NCS Colour Triangle, you find them on a straight line parallel to the greyscale from white (W) to black (S).

▫️ Defining similarity can also be done using close related colours; colours that are within 10 steps in the colour circle. NCS S 4040-R10B and NCS S 7020-R70B are examples of such.

Easter hues of .

The drivers of trend direction Inner is today’s divisive, sceptical, and harsh environment. It makes us turn inward, trusting our instincts and senses. This results in colour choices that evoke emotions of comfort, warmth, and joy. We embrace mid-tones – warm, earthy and human hues that exhibit subtle yet enduring strength. In a sense, we can call these colours digested, fermented and nostalgic.

From our trend workshop in Milan, Inner is the colour palette that unified all regions and industries, and has stayed the same throughout the trend work development. It is secure and natural.

NCS S 1015-Y80R.

NCS S 4030-Y70R is an earth-baked red-brown. In the colour palette of Inner, it represents humanity and life. There is softness in its lower chroma but strength in its deeper value.

All colours of Inner are very similar in whiteness (10-30%), which makes them easy to combine, though still with enough contrast to make them feel interesting.

A darker, pale violet colour that reminds us of our purest inner feelings? NCS S 5020-R20B. The colour is a perfect ethical expression that is powerful and still elegant.

The colour palette of 2025+ trend direction Inner consists of mature pastels, off-beat inter-tone colours, mid-tones, not loud but strong, human-connected colours. The colours are warm and earthy, reminding us of our inner selves. NCS S 2060-Y90R is a softer red that does not trigger us but rather embraces us with a warm, sensual feeling.
