Johäll Getaway House in Borås, Sweden - A retreat designed for a family of four, on a sloping plot by a lake. A functional, 65sqm home with minimal impact on the natural surroundings. 
 
The design features four cuboid structures arranged at a 45° angle to the lake to maximize views and reduce reflection. Constructed from glass and galvanized steel for a maintenance-free and pure aesthetic, the structures are designed to blend with the landscape, evoking rock crystals emerging from the hillside. 
 
The main house includes a central wooden core that supports an open-plan layout while creating defined spaces. A sunken roof terrace provides additional outdoor living space, integrating the house into the surrounding trees.

Not everybody know that we designed the Swedish TV-Award ”Kristallen” (like a Swedish ”Emmy”). The brief was to design something ”long and heavy in a Swedish material”. We designed a hexagon-shape glass object, that another triangular shape was ”blown into”. Every year there’s a new colour on the triangular part. The manufacturing process (all mouth blown) is extremely difficult, and the discarding rate is very high. The remaining perfect ones becomes the awards. These pics are from the 2024 awards which took place the day before yesterday. We wish all the winners the best of luck!

Surprise, surprise! Ace Swedish lifestyle magazine (the best?) put our latest architectural project - the Getaway House - on their cover! We’re so honoured that they chose to do that! A project that was considered “crazy” from the local community (a vacation house on a VERY steep slope entirely in galvanised steel and concrete - with an all-wood interior) is now ready. More international publications will follow.

Still a year before this amazing project is completed.

Our new vase collection MIDSUMMER - all mouthblown - for classic Swedish glass maker is now launched in Berlin as part of the exhibition “Swedish Glass Design Re-Imagined” at the Nordic Embassies here in town. The collection takes its name from a Swedish folk-lore tale, stating that if you pick seven different flowers during midsummer eve, then place them under your pillow, you will dream about your upcoming love. The collection consists of seven different shaped small vases (all to be made in this version one time only) that will be renewed from year to year. A true collectors item.

3DaysOfDesign: We just released our latest book ”Offecct + Claesson Koivisto Rune”. Celebrating 25 years of collaboration, but also the launch of three new low tables with an interesting mirror concept. There are also three texts about how we view art, architecture and design. The book was well written by Gustaf Kjellin and beautifully designed by Henrik Nygren.

We were greatly saddened to hear of the death of Jan Widlund, prominent lawyer, art collector and dear friend, at the age of 82.
In 2011 we designed Jan and his wife Karin’s vacation house ‘Villa Widlund’ on Öland island. The house turned out as much a home for Jan’s art as for Jan and Karin. But more importantly the work on this house led to a sincere friendship, not least based on the shared interest in contemporary art. Many conversations about quality in art, design or architecture followed, Jan’s insights always thoughtful, always amicably delivered.
The photo is from the opening of the exhibition ‘House Art View’ at the Time & Style Gallery in Tokyo in 2018. The exhibition revolved around the design of the Widlund House and Jan had travelled from Stockholm only for attending our opening. Jan is standing next to Ola Rune’s mother Vallmy, both sadly no longer with us. We miss you.
